Comcast loves being #1…worst company in America that is.
If you weren’t familiar with Consumerist, let me toot their horn. It’s a great site that calls out companies in America for shady tactics with the only aim of righting the wrongs. However often that actually plays out doesn’t matter so much as the thought behind the whole shebang. Anyway, the point I am leading to is that Consumerist holds a contest each year that gives readers full discretion of choosing the worst company in America. And wouldn’t you know it, a Gadgetsteria frequent topic — Comcast — took home the gold…
Apparently that gold medal means so very much to their cold black hearts. America’s worst company had the audacity to tell a poor family whose house burned down that they’d lose their promotional pricing for suspending and restarting service — because they were living in a hotel while their house was rebuilt. Even more tarnishing is the fact that #1 even demanded the return of the cable boxes. Because, you know, cable boxes are fire proof… The penalty for not returning the billion dollar, fire proof boxes was a $1,300 fine! That’s true customer service right there folks.
In the end, someone in Comcast’s customer service department managed to find one of 3 people with any common sense inside the company, choosing to waive the associated fees. Just kidding — Comcastic-my-ass only relented when a local reporter decided to make them the topic of the evening news.
And that right there folks is how you take home the gold for America’s worst company. Be sure to check out the video below.
**BTW, if you’re going to knock us for pointing this out after a resolution has been met, let us remind you that the mere fact we have to even talk about this goes to prove how fucked up this company is. Enjoy the show.
