Colorblind drivers rejoice: The Uni-Light

  • June 18, 2010 10:08 am

Do you have yourself a faulty pair of eye balls that simply refuse to distinguish certain or all colors? I can certainly understand how such things would put a few monkey wrenches in your daily routine, especially considering that stop lights in particular rely on colors to get their message across — a very important message that is.

But there is hope for color absent people — the Uni-Light. Besides having normal colors for not so color blind people, the Uni-Light features shapes in addition to colors to help people discern when exactly it’s ok to go, stop, or…speed up to beat the red triangle light. Definitely a good thing that cities around the country should look at implementing. ‘Nother pic after the jump

Put some polish on that boring wall with Super Mario decals.

  • June 18, 2010 10:01 am

Home decor isn’t normally something we care too much about here at Gadgetsteria. But every once in a while, something rather nifty comes along that tickles are fancy. Today, the tickling is being done by these slick looking Super Mario decals. Basically big stickers, the decals will put that nerdy touch on any room regardless of what else is stowed in the same space. Picking up some yourself will set you back a rather steep $75. But don’t let that deter your too easily. That $75 will net you three sheets of decals, coming to a total 36 individual decals. So yes, you’re going to have some options…

Example 1,371 of how AT&T hates their customers: AT&T charging for and counting data sent over femtocells against your new data cap.

  • June 17, 2010 7:55 pm

Yes, AT&T’s relentless assault on our souls trying to make us hate them more and more is a never ending battle. The latest in their quest to be the ultimate asshole corporation in the world — charging femtocell users for supporting AT&T’s broken ass network. Does anyone recall how a few months back, AT&T praised femtocells as a huge help by removing data traffic from their crippled network and passing it on to the consumers internet carrier of choice? That was great until AT&T changed around the binding contract that femtocells are controlled by — AT&T’s wireless contract restrictions. And now that AT&T’s data plans are capped…well, you can see where this is going to go.

Of all the asinine tactics, charing people for data that never crosses over AT&T’s wireless waves, trying to nickel and dime customers, is highway robbery. Even worse, if a femtocell user makes use of an ISP other than AT&T, getting charged for overages by AT&T over bits that never touch their network seems pretty shady. How anyone with a straight face can claim that AT&T has any care in the world for their customers is smoking something highly illegal. Let’s hope AT&T updates their TOS to throw a bone to the relatively small group of femtocell users…fast!

**I’ve read that Verizon’s TOS applies the same verbiage. However, Verizon doesn’t currently cap data as they still have a somewhat true “unlimited plan”. Anyone care to share?

Common sense does exist — Paramount to allow Redbox and friends new movie rentals same day as new movie purchases.

  • June 17, 2010 7:37 pm

I’ve honestly lost count how many times I’ve written articles criticizing the MPAA and movie industry as a whole. Their entire thinking in general is bassakwards and completely anti-consumer. The only beneficiary is the rights owners’ pockets. Consumers on the other hand get shafted as old business models are desperately fought for in vain. But even after three separate movie studios have blacklisted Redbox and others such as Netflix with BS 28-day rental blackouts, common sense does reside in at least one — Paramount.

Paramount Home Entertainment is actually promising that they’re going to allow rental services to rent out new movie purchases the same day as they are available for actual purchase. +1 for the consumer…

Audiophile sound soon coming in a more portable package — HiFiMan 602

  • June 17, 2010 7:19 pm

Do your friends call you “Golden Ears”, signaling you have some sort of extra-human hearing? While I wouldn’t label myself a full blown audiophile, I’d definitely rate me above average in the sound department. At CES I had the opportunity to play around with and listen to the HiFi Man 801, an MP3 player for audiophiles through and through. It features some of the highest grade components across the board with options to swap out op-amps as the user sees fit. The price however, wasn’t so easy to stomach nor was it easy to fit in your pants pocket. That’s where the new HiFi Man 602 fits in the picture…

HTC fails to understand what makes their handsets great, sends C&D to website hosting HTC device ROMS.

  • June 17, 2010 6:12 pm

You know, I’m a tinkerer at heart. I love to change and alternate my gadgets at will. Part of that is why I’m attracted to Android. It’s so easy to change the UI and environment to literally anything I want. The Android underground hacking/ROM/developer scene is exploding, signaling that now is a great time to be an Android user. HTC however, has shown that they utterly fail to understand just what makes hardcore Android loyalists…loyal.

A new website dubbed Shipped-Roms.com is barely a month old, but is gaining tons of attention for (1) having the claimed “world’s largest amount” of shipped HTC roms and (2) getting a fresh C&D from HTC themselves. Apparently, HTC is putting up a stink because of all the “intellectual artwork” that Shipped-Roms is apparently stealing/using illegitimately.

Apparently HTC thinks that fighting a very helpful, vocal, and useful community that actually makes their hardware better is a good idea. Yeah, about that — continue on…

Have yourself a BlackBerry running OS 5.x and want some of that OS 6 eye candy? Thanks to Mike over at MiPar Designs, having the latest and greatest looks on the now slightly older and not so great is a possibility. Luckily for CrackBerry users, theming the platform is easy, quick, and cost efficient (whew!). The theme above is aptly titled “OS 6″ and is currently available for OS 5.x devices and above for $2.99 over at MobiHand.
