Vapor4 iPhone 4 bumper insulates antenna, claims better wireless reception. Made out of aluminum and costs $80…
As the iPhone 4 reception issue rages on, some have scoffed at Apple’s only real “solution” that’s been offered so far: purchase a $0.50 piece of rubber marked up to $30. Yes, the iPhone 4 bumper case. While it will insulate your iPhone 4′s external antenna, it’s rather bland, wouldn’t you say? That’s where the Vapor4 steps in.
Constructed out of pure aluminum, strength is the name of the game while also staying light on its feet. Furthermore, the inside of the Vapor4 case has a “secret special lining” (read: rubber) to keep the iPhone 4′s antenna insulated. Pretty simple stuff. The manufacturer also claims that signal is not affected in any way.
If I recall, the whole reason Apple dropped the aluminum back when moving form the original iPhone to the iPhone 3G was that the aluminum back casing wreaked havoc on cellular signals. Now that you’ve essentially got a specially fitted aluminum case wrapped around the antenna…again, “Awesome reception isn’t the first thing I’d think of. We’ll see though. If anything, they’re sure snazzy to look at.
Oh, one more thing — price. You will pay dearly for antenna isolation: $80! Fancy a carbon fiber Vapor 4 to also protect that fragile as a newborn back glass? That’ll be $100 please. Who’s still interested?
