Relief: Google rolling out “multiple account log-in”. Browser tango no longer needed.
If you’re like me, you’ve got a couple of gmail accounts that need checking many times per day. The only problem is you need to have separate windows (ex: one window in Chrome and another in Chrome Incognito Mode) to log into each account simultaneously. Thankfully, that little “feature” is dying today as Google is in the process of rolling out a new multiple account log-in feature.
Navigate to your gmail settings and get yourself to the accounts page. Once in there, look for a small section labled “Multiple Log-in”. It defaults to off (of course), so you’ll need to change it. If you don’t see the option yet, don’t fret. This is literally brand spankin’ new, so it hasn’t reached everyone’s accounts yet.
Oh, there’s one more small con at the moment. Not all of Google’s services are 100% functional with multiple accounts logged in. Specifically, the working services are as follows: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sites, Google Reader, Google Voice, App Engine and Google Code. Furthermore, the Google Calendar widget is pretty buggy right now and mobile users are completely shut out as multiple logins isn’t making the transition to mobile yet. Minor issues aside, checking multiple gmail accounts just became a lot easier.
I’m still waiting for the feature to hit one of my accounts. Have you received the new feature yet?
