Man, RIM just can’t catch a break this week. On on the heels of recent Blackberry bans originating from the Middle East and an all new BlackBerry Torch, the latest BlackBerry news has yet another defector — the EU Commission. Much like the other countries that have denounced the BlackBerry so far, too great of security is the reasoning behind the EU’s move. Instead of the tried and true corporate work horse, EU Commission members will have the option to choose from HTC phones and Apple’s ever popular iPhone. Overall, the move away from BlackBerries is supposedly going to affect a mere 2,500 EU employees (out of the 32,000 total). Kind of says something about how the BlackBerry is even faltering in it’s own claimed territory.
It’ll be interesting to see how the next several months play out. With seemingly weekly announcements of new BlackBerry defectors eager to vocalize plans to ditch RIM’s corporate baby, an odd scene begins to play out. RIM, once regarded for their uber tight security is now being ridiculed and criticized over it.
Has your workplace made the decision to ditch Blackberries for alternate devices?
