Ferrari Espresso Machine oozes extravagance. If only it were real…

  • August 9, 2010 7:16 am

If there’s one thing Ferrari owners generally have copious amounts of, it’s money. Lots of it. So much so, they’re willing to spend ridiculously overpriced amounts for anything with a Ferrari logo on it. I can’t judge though. I’d probably have a similar bit of loyalty myself if I was giving a particular company hundreds of thousands of dollars too. Nevertheless, I’m sure plenty of Ferrari owners have dreamt of a morning in which they could wake up to a fresh cup of espresso from their uber special, limited edition Michael Schumacher Ferrari Helmet Espresso machine.

Concept for now. But all it takes is one aspiring entrepreneur and outrageous licensing fees for this simple concept to become reality. Any taker?

Intel Sandy Pridge processor spied!

  • August 9, 2010 7:05 am

A CPU is a bland looking piece of silicon and various metals. Not much to look at, right? Well, if you’re a geek’s geek, that statement couldn’t be any less true. Truth be told, computer hardware is hot. With that said, take a look at the upcoming Intel Sandy Bridge CPU with all of it’s beauty on display (more or less). Here you can see the result of a higher 2011 pin count over the outgoing king of the hill’s 1366 — a larger, square-ish shape. Specifically, one that will now require two CPU latches/restraints to keep it in place. Yes, it’s big.

The larger size is needed because Intel has gone ahead and implemented plenty of new features directly into the processor chip itself: Integrated graphics unit, PCI-Express controller, and quad-channel memory support. (Yup — Sandy Bridge adopters are going to need lots of new everything…again…)

Being the nerd that I am, fresh off of a recent computer build a couple months back, Sandy Bridge definitely has the potential to win me over. Now we’ll just have to sit back and cross our fingers in hopes that Intel prices these just right. If so, it’ll be time to build another computer.

Any other enthusiasts itching for some new hardware?

OS 6 seen on 9650. Lethargic, yes.

  • August 9, 2010 6:57 am

Bittwesweet news for BlackBerry 9650 this morning — OS 6 has been spotted on your beloved VZW Bolds just as RIM had promised it would. However, there are a few caveats to deal with. First and foremost, just because RIM said it could happen, doesn’t mean it will. Verizon has the latest and greatest in testing. This we can see. But it is completely up to Big Red to actually go one step further push the update to end users. Of course, VZW has opened up quite a bit over the last couple of years. As such, there’s no real indication they’re going to keep slightly older hardware out of the loop.

Second, and perhaps more worrisome is that the official OS 6 toting 9650 in the possession of BBLeaks is showing some fairly high amounts of lag, even with 512MB of RAM. Again, worrisome news for 9650 owners, but even worse news for 9700 and Pearl 3G owners of whom both are also suspected to get OS 6 as well — and with half the memory to boot. With half the memory of the already laggy 9650, OS 6 on the 9700 and Pearl 3G doesn’t seem as great as it once did.

Hopefully RIM can tweak the OS more to run on these few supported classics. Of the 9650, 9700, and Pearl 3G, who’s planning on upgrading the OS and who’s jumping all the way in by getting the 9800 Torch?

iPod Touch 4 front faceplate seen on camera with…front facing camera.

  • August 6, 2010 10:41 am

*Front facing camera slot*…that is. A camera has been rumored for future iPod devices many years running, with each successive iPod release featuring…you guessed it…no camera. But it finally looks like pixel capturing technology will be coming to Apple’s cellular-less iPhone in the refreshed 4th generation. That is, if this leaked image showing a claimed 4th gen case is to be believed. As you can see, at the top there’s a center-aligned cutout precisely the size and shape a camera lens would need if it were in fact included.

Besides the front facing camera, a recent image leaked from a supposed iPod Touch 4th gen case manufacturer shows a rear-mounted cutout for another camera as well. From 0 to 2 in one generation? Hey, it’s possible. I’m just hoping they give us more than 64GB of storage. We’ll find out soon enough. Over the last few years, September has been “iPod month”. Will the tradition continue?

BestBuy blocks jailbreakme.com. Geek one-ups their one-up, uses N1 hotspot to regain access.

  • August 6, 2010 10:32 am

Video of an iPad/iPhone being cracked in an Apple store via the new Jailbreakme.com 2 update is definitely noteworthy, though not really worth an entire post. However, news of a BestBuy blocking jailbreakme.com only to have a snarky geek use his Nexus One’s hotspot feature to get around BestBuy’s block — priceless. +1 for the nerds. Video of the riveting action inside…

OS 6 for BlackBerry Torch leaked!

  • August 6, 2010 8:12 am

Have an itch to get your hands on the latest and greatest BlackBerry OS?! Never mind the simple fact that the Torch is the only BlackBerry that has a working version of OS 6 and the fact that it’s not even for sale yet. Small beans they are. For the true CrackBerry user, merely having the 1′s and 0′s that make up the best effort from RIM yet is enough to send chills down your spin.

Fair enough. Go and get it: BlackBerry Torch OS 6 download.

This artist sculpts…on the tip of pencil lead!

  • August 6, 2010 7:37 am

Every once in a while, you come across something that literally makes you gasp. Pencil artists Dalton Ghetti from Connecticut (originally Brazil) is one such example. The thing is, he doesn’t use pencils to create his art. They are the art. Spending at many times, months on these sculptures, Dalton certainly understands a thing or two about patience. Countless times he’s gotten a bit nervous or simply impatient and broken a piece of work weeks in the making.

Still, the seemingly dead sculptures don’t go to waste. Dalton has a Styrofoam board with over 100 failed pieces stuck into the base, creating a sort of morbid sculpture in and of itself. Dalton has titled it “The Cemetery Collection”.

There’s some truly amazing work here. Hop inside to see a couple for yourself…
