MeeGo coming to an Android near you. Nexus One first up on the table.

  • September 26, 2010 12:49 pm

The Nexus One is to many, “the” ultimate Android device even after several other more powerful devices have been released. The reason being is that it’s Google’s one and only self branded, carrier agnostic phone. But that whole “Android” thing is getting so old, isn’t it? How about we slap some MeeGo on there, hmm? A team of developers has started with Google’s Jesus Phone as a solid base, with plans to expand to the Dell Streak and HTC Desire in the coming weeks/months.

For those interested in more, be sure to add @vgrade (Nexus One) and @Termana (HTC Desire) to your Twitter list-o-friends in order to keep up on the action. Hop inside to see a few more shots of the magic as well as a video showing of the Dell Streak in particular, showing off it’s new face…

T-Mobile + Android UMA calling gets another shot of “yes”!

  • September 26, 2010 12:31 pm

You may recall late last week an article that showed the LG Optimus potentially getting UMA calling features. (Quickrecap: UMA calling allows cellular calls to be made over WiFI and then transfer between the two technologies as you move from local network to cellular network.) It looks like the proof is slowly building, as a new series of training documents has leaked showing several slides of a new Android WiFi calling app.

Unlike UMA that is currently available on most of T-Mo’s feature phone lineup (save for a few other smartphones like BlackBerries), this new Android-capable version has two major differences…–>

The Twin-tubo V-12, flame throwing Murcielago SV by Underground Racing.

  • September 26, 2010 10:06 am

Not a car blog. I know. But who’s going to hate on an 1,100 horsepower (on pump gas, 1,300 with racing gas) twin-turbo V-12 Murcielago SV that not only rockets down the road, but spews fire on downshifts? Yeah, not many people. It’s a nice addition to an already beautiful car that isn’t overly tacky or gaudy. The gear head buffet is provided by Underground Racing. The particular package that you see the after effects of costs an eye melting $129,000 on top of the Murcielago’s already $200,000+ sticker price. Wow…

Pre-order T-Mobile G2 through WireFly and save $50

  • September 26, 2010 9:57 am

If there’s something gadget heads appreciate more than gadgets themselves, it’s the prices they dole out for said things. While we are more than wiling to shell out hundreds if not thousands of dollars at the drop of a hat for the latest and greatest, frugality is always in the back of our minds. Besides, if you save money on one gadget, perhaps you can buy a second, right?

The T-Mobile G2 is $200 when pre-ordered with a new 2-year contract. However, stopping by WireFly and doing your business there will save you an extra $50, bringing the total cost to $150. What will you do with an extra $50 in the bank?

“Multitasking Time” adds time and battery meter to multitasking tray [iOS4]

  • September 26, 2010 9:52 am

With iOS 4, Apple removed a lot of the reasons people used to jailbreak. The tinkers in the crowd will of course disagree, as iOS 4 still doesn’t allow for much of any customization — simply changing wallpapers isn’t enough. For that, jailbreaking is still the way to go. One nifty little plugin you can now add to your jailbroken beauty is “Multitasking Time”. It’s a simple mobile substrate plugin that does nothing more than add the current time and battery meter to the multitasking tray when the home button is double pressed. It’s nothing huge. Though I’m sure plenty of people will find it’s simplicity a welcome addition.

You can find “Multitasking Time” through ModMyi’s Cydia repo.

Angry Birds prototype plush toys spied roaming the streets of Manhattan.

  • September 24, 2010 5:49 pm

Angry Birds is easily one of the best games to ever grace the Android, iOS, and webOS platforms. It’s fun to play, it’s graphically beautiful, and it’s addicting — very addicting. Loving the game so much that you want to start collecting Angry Birds-branded merchandise is certainly within the realm of possibility. So when these claimed prototype Angry Birds plush toys hit the market next year, you can expect to see me standing in line ready to snatch them up.

What about you? Looking for a little Angry Birds in your life?

Failure in the making? Eric Schmidt: “We won’t restrict custom skins, push stock Android”.

  • September 24, 2010 2:47 pm

A sharp blow for “Android purists” this fine Friday afternoon — Eric Schmidt has come out and publicly stated that he nor Google will require “stock Android” (read: skin free devices). He cites staying true to Android’s open nature. (This of course coming from a company who’s being sued by Skyhook for supposedly pressuring manufacturers to abandon Skyhook’s satellite/GPS technology for Google’s own services.)

For someone such as myself who *was* an Android user, it’s a very sad turn of events. Some may point out that each custom skin brings it’s developers’ views, ideas, and designs to the platform, ultimately pushing Google to innovate themselves. While that’s a very valid point, at the end of the day I’m still left looking 4-5 years in the future. If Android has fragmented this much in only 2 years, what will the next 5 hold?

As it stands now, Android 3.0 won’t bring the much needed unity to the quickly fragmenting Android landscape. Now all I can do is sit back and wonder: Will Android become the next Windows Mobile?
