114 years of gadgets and electronics as told by the world’s oldest living man…

  • September 24, 2010 7:20 am

Childhood for Walter Breuning involved a neighborhood without cars, running water, or TV’s. No, he wasn’t born in some third world country, but here in America…114 years ago. You see, Walter (according to records) is the oldest living man in the world. Hit the rewind button 114 years and you end up in 1896. It’s pretty crazy to think that someone from that era is still alive. Because we’ve all grown up with cars, running water, electricity and so on, we find it almost impossible to think of what life was like without it. But Walter answers a few questions and gives us a glimpse into the childhood of the late 1800′s and early 1900′s. For a person such as myself whose hooked on gadgets, it’s pretty cool to hear about the past from someone who’s seen “the future”.

Boiling water meets -45°F air. Insta-ice ensues…

  • September 24, 2010 7:08 am

I’m a warm weather loving person. And when I say warm, I meant hot. 90+ is my comfort zone. Old people…not so much. But I’m still young and youthful. Yippie for me. With that said, I hate loathe the cold. And yet I love snow. Go figure. I’m somewhat retarded. Anyway, if I lived in a place where it was -45°F…well…ok, I’d never live there. But if I did, I’d totally take some boiling water and chuck it out the window, watching it turn into insta-ice on the way to the ground. Some fun geeky science would keep me occupied for a few minutes anyway. A picture is worth a thousand words, but sometimes a video is just so much more expressive. You know where to go … –>

New AppleTV release pushed back into October?

  • September 23, 2010 9:05 pm

Some potentially unsettling news for Apple fans that pre-ordered the new AppleTV tonight — Apple has begun issuing refunds for those who pre-ordered and chose rush shipping. To me that signals that delays are imminent. While it’s certainly sad that it’s delayed, being the gadget lover that I and surely all of you are, it’s at least comforting to see Apple being proactive and issuing refunds in advance. With that said, Apple hasn’t come forward (nor responded to emails) about whether or not the AppleTV is in fact delayed. Though let’s be real — If Apple is issuing refunds for orders with rush shipping at the end of September, it’s highly likely the release has already been pushed back.

We’ll keep checking our inbox and let you know once we find out something.

Mozilla-designed phone rocks dual pico projectors and embedded bluetooth dongle.

  • September 23, 2010 6:51 pm

The above concept phone by Mozilla Labs goes by the name of “Seabird”. Looks alone might win a few design contests, but phones have reached a point where they’re all pretty much the same basic style. Services and software are increasingly becoming the staple points of any given platform. With that said, how does the Seabird differentiate itself?

The most intriguing part of this little gem is the embedded bluetooth dongle. It’s detachable and can be held like a remote, enabling the user to interact with the device without having to even touch it. In much the same way, you can use that dongle as a bluetooth mouse. And finally, the dongle can be used as your typical bluetooth earpiece. But that’s not all…

Beware: Avoid “fake” Greenpois0n for now. Trojans and stolen passwords the only “feature”.

  • September 23, 2010 8:58 am

Jailbreakers beware: The greenpois0n tool that taps into the SHAtter exploit as highlighted by the Chronic Development Team does not have a tool to jailreak anything past iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4. Anything you can download currently that claims to jailbreak any iOS version and on any device is a lie. Instead of freeing your iPhone to the whims of your imagination, you’re freeing your passwords and other sensitive information to whomever the app phones home to.

According to Kaspersky’s Costin Raiu:

All the existing “greenpois0n” archives at the moment contain Trojans designed to steal passwords and other private data from your system. In addition to the Trojans, fake (rogue) jailbreaking websites have appeared; they pretend to sell tools that can jailbreak any version of iPhone with any version of iOS. The average cost for these is $25-$40.

Jailbreaking always carries some risks. That is a given. But this has the potential to be more devastating if people jump on board, believing it’s a legitimate tool. For now, avoid the Greenpois0n tools you may find on the web as well as any jailbreaking website that offers up its services in return for money.

For the real SHAtter-powered exploit, keep following the Chronic Dev Team’s “pod2g” via twitter (@chronicdevteam) as he will give the final word when it’s legit.
