If you happened to be following Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 rather closely, you may have seen a recent marketing image on Microsoft’s site that included the Angry Birds image. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the game — it’s awesome. ‘Nough said. I never thought flingin’ birds at wood and stone could be so much fun. I’ve put away countless hours spanning many, many weeks trying to hone in on those Angry Birds leader birds. Windows Phone 7 users will not be doing any such things anytime soon, however.
After seeing the image up on Microsoft’s site, the development company behind Angry Birds, Rovio Mobile, tweeted that Microsoft had actually gone ahead and used the image without their permission. Nice! I know Microsoft is desperate and all to get as many high profile apps ready for launch, but something tells me that using applications’ icons for your own marketing purposes (and without said company’s permission no less) isn’t the best way of going about it.
