AMD 6300m and 6500m Moible GPU’s Appear Online. #amd

  • November 29, 2010 10:46 am

Looks like the holiday season is going to be a good season for PC enthusiasts. While the desktop front has the Nvidia GTX 580 and GTX 570 as well as the AMD 69xx GPU’s to look after, the mobile sphere will have their own crown figures. On that note, two new mobile GPU’s popped up on AMD’s website over the weekend — the 6300m and 6500m.

The 6300m has GPU clocks that run at either 500MHz or 750MHz as well as memory clocks of 1600MHz or 1800MHz (GDDR3). The 6300m also features 320 stream processors and 8 texture units with a total output of 120Gflops. The more beastly (on paper anyway) 6500m features 400 stream processors and 20 texture units, which ends up resulting in 520Gflops of processing power. The clocks for that chip are 500MHz or 650MHz for the core and 1800MHz (GDDR3) or 3600MHz (GDDR5).

Besides the obvious ties to mobile gaming, hardware acceleration support, Blu-ray playback, and 3D support are among the other top concerns. Rounding out the list of features includes 7.1 surround audio and AMD’s multi-display Eyefinity support — up to 4 monitors for the 6300m and 6 monitors for the 6500m.

Expect prices and release information to follow fairly closely…

Nvidia GeForce GTX570 Details Leaked. Slated for Release December 7th. #nvidia #gtx570

  • November 29, 2010 10:26 am

If Nvidia’s flagship GTX 580 is either too expensive or too powerful for your needs, come December 7th a new option will present itself. The GTX 570 specs have been leaked, compliments of SWEClockers.com. The biggest improvement is the underlying GF110 architecture which is considerably more efficient and cooler running than the outgoing GF100 architecture that made the 4xx series famous for heat and power requirements.

As you can see, the new second in command to the GTX 580 features 480 shader cores unlocked — the same amount as Nvidia’s previous top of the line GTX 480 — ticking along at 732 MHz core, 1464 MHz CUDA cores, and 950 MHz (3800 MHz effective). Said speeds combined with a 320-bit wide GDDR5 memory bus equate to 152 GB/s of memory bandwidth. Power consumption is rated at 225W.

As previously stated, Nvidia is aiming for a December 7th release date — a mere 5 days before ATI launches their new 69xx series GPU’s. Anyone thinking about picking up one or two for Christmas?

Wikileaks DDoS Attack Caused by Single “Hacktivist for Good”? #wikileaks

  • November 29, 2010 8:47 am

Anyone who spends a few seconds online here and there has surely come across a story or two about Wikileaks. The highly controversial site has garnered plenty of global attention in regards more-so to the recent leaks of highly secretive U.S. documents. Regardless of your stance on the matter, you can’t argue that the current Wikileaks situation is a big deal. With that said, enemies of Wikileaks are growing with each passing day. So news of a new DDoS attack mere hours after the most recent leak this past weekend doesn’t sound all too surprising.

Though the actual source of the attack is quite surprising. Many of you out there would probably assume a U.S.-led team of hackers or even more “professional” team of hackers were responsible. But according to one boastful @th3j35t3r, it was him and him alone that brought down Wikileaks over the weekend. A quick glance at the selftitled “hacktivist for good”, @the3j35t3r’s personal blog dating from September highlights his personal motivations over Wikileaks’ “insurance policy” — the file encryption process which the whistle blowing site employs for anonymous uploads. The claimed motive is odd considering the strong patriotic undertones of his Twitter bio: “obstructing the lines of communication for terrorists, sympathizers, fixers, facilitators, oppressive regimes and other general bad guys”

So far we cannot confirm nor deny if @the3j35t3r is the actual hacker, whether he had help, or the real reasons for his supposed DDoS assault. The next few days and coming will be mighty interesting for sure.

Vodafone Revamps Data Traveler Roaming Plan. #vodafone

  • November 29, 2010 7:06 am

Vodafone users do a lot of traveling will be pleased to know that their carrier of choice recently revamped the popular “Vodafone Day Traveler” data plan. Instead of the laughingly low 5MB allotment of roaming data, EU users can now make use of up to 25MB of data whilst abroad. Granted, it’s still ridiculously low considering the scope of mobile technologies today. Though an increase of 5MB to 25MB is certainly appreciated nonetheless. According to the company, 25MB is good for roughly 250 emails, 25 minutes of SD YouTube video, or viewing 65 different maps.

Pricing is set at £2/day or £10/month. Look for the new plans to go live on December 1st.

Sprint WiMax Rollout Continues. #wimax #sprint

  • November 29, 2010 6:23 am

Good news for WiMax hopefuls — several more cities have been added to the list while one city has been green-lighted early. As for the latter city, LA residents were promised WiMax by December 1st. Sprint was feeling in the giving mood however and took it upon themselves to flip the switch two days early, and blanket the greater LA area starting today. The list of new cities to join LA in WiMax coverage include: Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio; Miami, Florida; and Washington DC.

While WiMax got off to a very, very slow start, it appears that things are finally starting to pick up. Though it’s for good reason. Verizon and AT&T both of LTE plans with the former launching in 31 major markets by the end of 2010, and further increasing that reach in 2011. It’s definitely in WiMax’s best interests to get their own technology out into as many has as possible.

With that said, how’s the new WiMax treatin’ everyone this morning?

Android 2.1 Update for Xperia X8 Begins Rolling Out. #android #sony

  • November 27, 2010 10:37 pm

Today, Sony Ericsson announced via their blog that the official Android 2.1 (Eclair) update has started rolling out to Xperia X8 users and some additional X10 users. Many of us have had 2.1 since late 2009 and Android 2.2 since earlier this year. With that said, the only reasoning we see for the massive delay is on Sony Ericsson because of the complex nature of the Rachel UI.

Besides performance improvements and bug fixes, Android 2.1 on the Xperia X8 will bring among the standard Android 2.1 updates, media sharing via TV’s, as well as some pretty hefty upgrades to the MedisSpace and TimeSpace layers. Unfortunately, 720p video recording won’t be included (much like the X10 mini and mini pro models).

Xperia X8 users: Let us know how the updates go!

…Alright, a bit more. Earlier today, Rovio Mobile tweeted that the latest update to the widely popular mobile game, Angry Birds, is one step closer. Rovio Mobile has officially submitted the Christmas update of Angry Birds to Apple. We don’t think it’ll be too long until we see the update go live simply because we’ve witnessed a few other high profile apps sneek through the approval process faster than normal. Just sayin’…

Time to celebrate.
