Review: Invaders World Tour 3 #ios #invadersworldtour

The iOS platform may be *the* platform to beat in the here and now thanks to the powerful hardware, efficient OS, and vast pool of developer talent. It’s true, there are some truly stunning games running on an iPhone that as little as 5 years ago were a dream for consoles even. But every now and then, a trip back to our roots is needed to remind us where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, and where we can go in the future.

8-bit styling has been increasing in popularity as of late. Everything from clothing to video games has been touched. Some may cringe at the thought of pixelated, early 90′s graphics on something as sharp and sexy as the the iPhone 4′s Retina Display. But truth be told, the retro factor more than makes up for it.

For tonight’s trip back into yesteryear, we’re going to take a look at World Invaders 3, by Appular. Jump on in…

If you couldn’t already tell, the old Space Invaders is idea is played upon heavily in Invaders World Tour 3. It oozes an early 90′s feel reminiscent of many of the great arcade titles of years past with just enough graphical flare and social features to appeal to the new age of gamers.

With that said, anyone who has played Space Invaders will have a good grasp of what’s going on here in Invaders World Tour 3. The player controls a sliding gun that moves left and right across the screen based on how much you tilt your device. Firing weapons is handled by simple taps.

When you start off, you have a rather meager weapon that barely gets the job done. However, acquiring power ups which can be managed via the control center/main menu is certainly helpful.

Addictive gameplay and retro graphics aside, the thing that really intrigued me most was the vBOX integration. Included with the app are two game soundtracks: one retro 8-bit style and one new-age “modern” one. There’s also a third, customizable option that gives customers the ability to create their own background track for Invaders World Tour 3. I haven’t spent too much time with the soundtrack creator yet. Based on what I’ve seen however, it could definitely end up stealing more of my day away from more important tasks.

Conclusion

While it may seem simple in nature, it’s often these simple, pick-up-and-play games that we spend the most time one. It’s the type of game you can jump into for a few minutes while you’re waiting for the bus to something you blow 5 hours on trying to beat record high score. For casual and serious gamers alike, Invaders World Tour 3 is one game you may want to add to your list.
