White iPhone Paint Issue Resolved With New Type Of Paint?

  • January 25, 2011 6:01 pm

If reports from Macotakara are to be believed in conjunction with various white iPhone 4 sightings in retail inventory systems across the world, the white iPhone saga is coming to a close. The biggest rumor thus far has focused around light bleeding issues on the white iPhone’s uber transparent casing, which in turn reeked havoc on the internal camera. But that’s all a thing of the past thanks to the efforts of Apple and an unknown Japanese company whom co-developed a new type of paint specifically for the iPhone.

As always however, such claims are merely speculation at this point. Though Apple’s most recent “Spring 2011″ dead line is finally approaching. Combine that with the evidence highlighted above and the picture starts to look a little clearer. But with Verizon’s iPhone just around the corner and the iPhone 5 coming not too long after, do you even care about a white iPhone 4 anymore?

February Software Update Bringing Mac Support To VZW LTE Modems.

  • January 25, 2011 5:52 pm

To every Mac user who hasn’t hacked their shiny new LTE modems to work on their OS X-equipped machines (or those waiting for more official options), your meal ticket is coming very soon. In an exchange of words with PhoneScoop, VZW mentioned a pending February update that would bring the highly sought after Mac support that many have been clamoring for. Of course, those who really wanted to get VZW’s LTE modems up and working on their non-Windows machines already have via various hacks easily found online. But for the masses, a more official approach is greatly appreciated and needed. For the record, this update is only for the LG VL600 modem at this time.

No official release date has been revealed as of writing.

“Motorola Defy 7″ WP7 Android Theme Rocks!

  • January 25, 2011 1:07 pm

For those who live in the Android world but adore the WP7′s tiled interface can now have the best of both worlds thanks to a new theme designed by Adrian Mignogna for LauncherPro and ADWLauncherEX called “Motorola Defy 7″. From the initial image above, it is definitely a lot nicer looking and more polished than the other WP7 homescreen replacements we’ve seen thus far. Nevertheless, Microsoft will not be happy upon seeing this (although, they’ve been pro-hacker/dev lately, so…). And with the “Motorola” in the title, we can’t imagine they’d be all that thrilled either.

With that said, if you must have the WP7 homescreen on your Android device, you might want to think about getting this now rather than later. Video of the theme and it’s myriad of options after the break…

BlackBerry Messenger 6 Features Revealed.

  • January 25, 2011 1:00 pm

As suspected, RIM announced some upcoming changes in their BlackBerry Messenger platform that will coincide with increased social aspects of future OS updates. Indonesian blog, Kombb, managed to get some claimed preliminary details of BBM 6.0:

  • Play games using your BBM username
  • Cross-chat with users on BBM even without being their friends.
  • BBM status will update dynamically depending on goals and accomplishments from games.
  • BBM6 will be supported on all 5.x+ devices.

While RIM’s products aren’t typically geared specifically for consumers (as opposed to the corporate/enterprise market), these upcoming change certainly sound promising. But are they enough? My vote: RIM needs to get QNX on BlackBerry phones ASAP!

“PalmPad” Trademark Rejected By USPTO.

  • January 25, 2011 12:50 pm

The wait for the “PalmPad” will be a lengthy one. The USPTO has officially denied the trademark claim by HP. Apparently, it will create too much confusion with already trademarked products on the market — Palm OS, Palm Pre, Palm, and Palm webOS. That would certainly explain the rash of trademark filings by HP as of late. Looks like someone forgot to get all their i’s and t’s taken care of concerning the HP/Palm buyout and alerting the proper channels so things like this don’t happen.

Upcoming Copy/Paste In Windows Phone 7 Gets Detailed.

  • January 25, 2011 11:17 am

With all the commotion that usually revolves around blazing fast processors, pixel-stuffed displays, and new powerful GPUs, it’s kind of ironic that we still get so worked up over copy & paste functionality at the OS level. And yet here we are, writing this post which details copy & paste and it’s late entrance into Windows Phone 7. So, how is it? From ChevronWP7′s Chris Walsh, we get the impression it is good, though not perfect. The biggest problem Chris highlights is that copy & paste functionality will only be possible in text that is rendered in “textbox control” parts of the OS. This is a problem because not all apps render text in said way. The WP7 Twitter app for example, does not make use of the textbox control, and therefore won’t support copy & paste (at least for now). The same goes for other 3rd party apps that don’t render text in the same manner — the developer(s) will have to make the necessary changes.

The news isn’t earth shattering initially. Though we’ll have to wait and see just how many apps on the WP7 platform support the requirements for proper copy & paste and whether or not the developers will update them.

New Multitasking UI Coming to Symbian^3?

  • January 25, 2011 7:16 am

While Symbian^3 already has some multi-tasking features built into the core of the operating system, it doesn’t look quite as nice as the image above. So when promotional pictures (like said image above) are released, it naturally piques our interest. As of writing, there’s no official announcement/confirmation/denial by Nokia of what exactly we’re looking at. Nonetheless, it certainly can’t hurt Nokia’s attempts at stemming the loss of users to other mobile platforms.
