T-Mobile G2X Roaming Woes and Uncapping The Atrix 4G.

AT&T users with the Atrix 4G have no doubt heard a thing or two about AT&T artificially gimping your phones to 2G speeds while simultaneously advertising a real “4G” experience. Regardless of your stance on the situation, it’s most certain that you at least want the phone you paid for. Lucky for you the talented devs at XDA have a solution. A simple radio flash of radio version 1.87 from the latest Telstra 1.4.2 firmware update is all it takes to go from abysmal 0.3Mbps uploads to a stout 2Mbps HSUPA upload speed.

Fans on “the other carrier GSM carrier” have an issue of their own. The G2X was apparently labeled and marketed wrong — it is not in fact a quad-band 3G phone. Support for T-Mobile, AT&T, and global GSM networks is provided in 2G mode only. Once in 3G mode it’s T-Mobile’s 1700MHz AWS band and foreign markets that are being catered to. G2X owners who were hoping to unlock said device and move over to AT&T will be sorely disappointed to know that it is indeed impossible due to a hardware limitation.

Any Atrix or G2X owners care to speak out?
