Motorola Accidentally Outs XOOM 2, Slimeline, Zaha, And Tracy XL.

  • May 31, 2011 11:50 pm

Following a company split earlier this year, Motorola Mobility appears to be doing some late spring cleaning/rearranging. Lucky for us, their new site redesign didn’t go all too perfectly as the XOOM 2 tablet and three other unannounced devices were leaked!

The devices — XOOM 2, Slimline, Zaha, and Tracy XL. While the pictures themselves are crude at best, void of any hardware specs, and lack any release date/pricing information, we’re still intrigued to say the least.

Seeing as how Motorola asked fellow tech site PocketNow to take down their cache of leaked devices means we’re working with finite time. Get your oogling done before Motorola comes knocking. (Though once something makes it’s way to the internet, it’s never quite possible to reach “private” status once again.)

Google Offers Hits Portland Ahead Of San Fran and New York.

  • May 31, 2011 11:28 pm

Impressed by Google’s upcoming Google Wallet + Google Offers services? Residents of San Francisco and New York undoubtedly are as they are the first two cities said to be gaining the aforementioned services. That is they were the first two cities until Eric Schmidt announced today at AllThingsD that Google Offers will be coming to Portland, Oregon immediately — as in tomorrow morning. As if we didn’t already love/envy Portland enough, Google has to go and do this…

Eric Schmidt: We Just Renewed Google Maps Location Data With Apple.

  • May 31, 2011 11:16 pm

Over the last couple of years Apple has acquired a couple of companies (Placebase and Poly9) dealing specifically with location-based data leading many to believe Apple was preparing to replace Google Maps from iOS. In the more recent location tracking (non) story, it was revealed that Apple was gathering a massive amount of user location data in an effort to build a more robust mapping service with improved times that factored in traffic.

But any such rumors claiming that Google was on the way out got a swift kick by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt today at the AllThingsD conference. When questioned by Walter Mossberg and Kara Swisher about the possibility of Google-sourced map data being replaced, Schmidt replied:

I hope not, we just renewed with them.

While CEO’s (let alone ex-CEOs) aren’t always on top of their company’s own products and services, Schmidt always played a more active role in day to day operations and projects at Google. With that said, we can take his admission as fairly concrete evidence that Apple won’t be replacing Google Maps in the near-term. Maybe in iOS 6…

It’s Official: HTC Sensation Coming To Walmart June 12th, Everywhere Else June 15th For $299.

  • May 31, 2011 10:58 pm

After an earlier tweet baiting followers to check back later for “Sensational” news, T-Mobile has followed up with an official announcement regarding the HTC Sensation. Stating as early as June 12th at Walmart and June 15th everywhere else, the HTC Sensation will claim the throne as T-Mobile’s top of the line Android device. While we don’t have a price just yet, we’d wager the typical $199-$299 on a 2-year contract. Pricing will be $199 with the standard 2-year contract. With that said, we’ll just let the specs do the talking. Check ‘em out after the break…

Claimed PlayBook 2 Details Trickle Out. Foreshadow Holiday 2011 Release.

  • May 31, 2011 9:59 pm

Tired of Apple/iPhone/iOS/WWDC news? Fair enough. We’ll toss some potential PlayBook 2 news your way.

New details trickling out from BlackBerry enthusiast site N4BB.com cite several sources close to the PlayBook development circle that say a 10″ “PlayBook 2″ is in the works. Note worthy specs supposedly include a thinner bezel, 4G/WiFi-only design (no 3G), black & white color choices, lack of a SIM card slot, and support for BES without the need for BlackBerry Bridge software.

While we’d certainly welcome a larger, BlackBerry Bridgeless device, we’d also like to see some actual content hit App World geard specifically towards RIM’s larger screened devices so we can actually enjoy them. On that same note, by the time any 2nd-gen PlayBook hits the market RIM should have already pushed out their native email, calendar, and contacts PlayBook applications making their currently criticized tablet much more useful to the average consumer.

Availability: Don’t hold your breath on any set claim — Holiday 2011.

BlackBerry 9790 Images Leak. (Old Prototype?)

  • May 31, 2011 9:50 pm

This so called BlackBerry 9790 hardware you see above may or may not be old hardware. Nonetheless, RIM needs any positive news it can get these days. With that said, specs include OS 7, 8 GB of internal memory, NFC, touch screen, and the usual QWERTY/QWERTZ keyboards. While no mention of processor is made, we can’t imagine it would be anything less than the same 1.2 GHz silicon powering the recently announced 9900/9930 devices. Though the older and more familiar 800 MHz slab ‘o silicon would certainly be the go-to back up.

What do you think: scrapped prototype or another piece of RIM’s OS 7 puzzle? A couple more pictures chilling after the jump…

Twitter To Launch Self Branded Photo Sharing Service For Deep Integration In iOS 5?

  • May 31, 2011 9:36 pm

Over the last week we’ve heard a lot of rumors and speculation claiming that Twitter is going to reveal their own photo sharing service sometime this week. Almost immediately people cried out at how Twitter was further destroying their 3rd party ecosystem. But despite current claims otherwise, Twitter reportedly sat down with several 3rd party Twitter photo sharing service developers as far back as January and told them about their (Twitter’s) plan to move into the same space. The general consensus is that the 3rd party devs will move to other “white-lablel” areas and possibly even receive continuing help from Twitter (with what or how we’re not sure).

Of couse, it’s perfectly ok to assume Twitter is moving into this space just because they can. Hell, they just dropped $40 million on TweetDeck to keep competitors off their back and lock in power users who’ve long complained Twitter’s own offerings are too simplistic and don’t offer enough features. The real treat, however, is something much more important on a broader scale — deep iOS 5 integration.
