Latest 11A444d Build Of OS X 10.7 (Lion) Features New UI Tweaks.

One of the biggest changes OS X users have been looking for since the release of OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is a revamped UI/removal of Aqua. While Aqua was hot in its day, times have changed and the look is growing old. The “Marble” interface that was at one point rumored to be the revamped UI in OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) never materialized, though DIY options to exist. But today, we’ve got a new look at some real changes coming to 10.7 via a new developer build (Build 11A444d). And surprise surprise, Apple is pulling over more design ideas from iOS.

In the image (above) depicting the OS X pref pane in the newest 11A444d build of Lion, the once Aqua-styled buttons for Expose and Spaces has changed to a flatter/matte button, with the darker/depressed option being the selected item. It’s worth noting that earlier builds of OS X Lion used an iOS-like slider (below) and had the selected option represented as the “brighter” button. Of course, both styles are in stark contrast to the current style of Snow Leopard (far bottom) and it’s Aqua buttons.

Past versions of OS X Lion featured an iOS-like slider.

Either way, it’s nice to see Apple finally getting away from Aqua. It’s time for change. But just how far will Apple go?

Something else I noticed was that the progress/loading bars seem to be different than in previous builds…also, when you mute the audio, a slash appears through the speaker icon instead of no sound waves being shown.

Any screenshots to share? We’d love to see them!

Sure, here are two screenshots of the things I was talking about…the first loading/progress bar picture is the current 11a444d design.

Also, AutoCorrect is present in Safari. (Not really a UI tweak but I figured I’d say this anyway)…the AutoCorrect behaves exactly like the iPhone’s autocorrect does. It’s very nice. Here’s a screenshot:
