Facebook Prepping Big 1.6 Update For Android.

To say the Facebook Android app is lacking would certainly classify as an understatement. It’s two short steps from full on failure. (We’re not hatin’ either, the iOS version is just as terrible.) But things will soon change if the upcoming 1.6 update is as awesome as some say it is.

Using a test pool of over 1,000 Reddit comments, the Facebook team has developed the latest 1.6 update to be the best yet. Besides the plethora of bug fixes, improvements to timelines, video uploads, the ability to like comments, pages support, and increased notifications options will all see the light of day in the near future.

Currently the 1.6 Facebook app is in private beta. With that said, interested readers can visit this page and fill out a short questionnaire for a chance to be included in the beta team. We can only hope the iOS app receives some improvements of its own, namely in the departments of speed and “not having to press ‘done’ 50 times for it to clear notifications”.

    Holy mother of zombie Jesus Christ … finaly! I hope that after this ALL PHONES WITH FROYO AND ABOVE will have push notifications and Sync options available.Sadly the page you suggested doesnt exist anymore so… i have tons of suggestions for them

      Lol at “Holy mother of zombie Jesus Christ!” — looks like the internet overwhelmed Facebook’s beta signup page.  Probably closed now, but I’d spend a few more hours hitting F5 just to make sure.

        Lol…well it was an honest exclamation – came from the heart :)

        I see….i did find that signup site on reddit and it worked.I think it’s
        because of what you said…indeed so many ppl want an updated FB app it
        makes your head explode.The current app sucks so bad i wanna puke my brains
        out and kill it – and that’s not even phisicaly possible!
        Yaaay for weird exclamations! :)

        Btw how much more do you think we’ll have to wait for the 1.6
        update?(estimates if possible)
        Also do you know if they removed the stupid build.prop limitation for Sync?
        (Short description: if your phone model doesnt exactly match the model
        numbers/names of your phone it wont let you add fb app to
        Accounts&Sync…meaning : no push notif.,no sync and ultimately becomes just
        a lame app that uses refresh interval of 30min and up to refresh
        notifications… also there are many phones with same OS or same
        hardware,but with only a differrent name or differrent model number so then
        the FB app could “think” such phones cant use the Sync function.My
        SGSgti9000 can add Twitter’s app to sync but cant add FB app…fucking
        stupid – excuse my fucking language :D )

          I don’t have any inside sources to go by, but I’d wager ~6 weeks.  With that said, I don’t know if the biuld.prop limitation has been touched.  I can certainly put my feelers out though.

            Works for me too…but only when i went to reddit and click on that link
            there.It’s prolly a coincidence …server load was maxed out when i cliked
            on the link you posted,but on reddit it was “free” at the time when i
            clicked on the link there

            I was talking about the link above.  Wouldn’t be surprised if their server was puking though.  I’m sure there’s at least half a million Android users looking for relief from the current 1.5 Facebook app.

        Woops …abt the build.prop question i made a mistake what i meant is to say
        if your phone model number/name doesnt exactly match the names/models of the
        FB app’s “compatible” list…fb app looks into your build.prop file and
        determines compatibility for sync…i explained further why is that a
        problem.
        Also i am a noob in Android stuff :)
