Microsoft Outs New Device/Xbox Service In Blog Post?

A new blog post by Microsoft highlighting the content of their E3 presentations next week has some very interesting gems tucked deep within.

Today, there is no better gaming experience in the world…. Games that extend to your Windows 7 PC and your Windows Phone 7…and, of course, other devices to come.

Did Microsoft just confirm they’re bringing some new hardware to E3 next week? Mounting evidence certainly supports such a claim. Rumors over the last several months have claimed Microsoft is working on some type of set-top box similar to Google TV. Of course if you really think about it, such a claim doesn’t make much sense.

Microsoft already has a great set-top box in the Xbox 360. Building on that point are recent trademark filings (WinRumors) by Microsoft which include Fusion Genesis, Fusion Vault, and Fusion Sentient as well as a Microsoft-owned URL “xboxfusion.com”. All of those names certainly sound like a multimedia/video/TV service that could “fuse” the gaming console and traditional TV into one unit. However, using the word “devices” sounds like hardware to us.

Call us crazy, we’d much rather see any Google TV-esque services implemented into the 53 million strong Xbox Live ecosystem rather than another piece of plastic taking up our entertainment stands.

Stay close to Gadgetsteria this week and early next as we cover E3, starting Monday, June 6th.
