T-Mobile Revealing 3 New HTC Devices On June 8th.

  • May 31, 2011 1:38 pm

A TmoNews source has spilled the beans on a June 8th company event in which three new HTC devices will supposedly be unveiled that was tipped off by a recent job filing (seen above). While many rumors have point to the Sensation 4G making an appearance, it’s attendance is not yet confirmed. Even more puzzling, however, are exactly what the other two new devices will be.

Potential pitch hitters include the HTC ChaCha (Facebook phone) as well as the HTC Marvel/Wildfire S and HTC Flyer tablet. These are but a few of the many devices we’ve seen in some form or another over the last several months. But as always, reserve final judgement and hold your salt shaker dearly…

“Government 2.0″ Spells Trouble For RIM, Microsoft.

  • May 31, 2011 1:28 pm

BlackBerries and Microsoft software have become synonymous with government. Where there is one there is the other. RIM and Microsoft have both long held the dominant positions in the corporate world, especially in the government sector, with RIM excelling in low data usage, great battery life, and bulletproof security. Microsoft too favors extreme security when needed and robust applications so that everyone has a choice. But that world is crashing down thanks to the onslaught of consumer devices such as the iPhone, iPad, and army of Android devices.

As the Washington Post details “Government 2.0, it becomes very clear RIM is beginning to approach the same cliff Nokia is currently facing — tanking sales and fledging interest signal a very bleak future unless RIM can turn things around and actually create something exciting when compared to the current competition.

For example, the president now has a new friend in his iPad, the ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosions) uses iPads to monitor suspects, and a number of other government agencies including the State Department, the Army, the Department of Veterans Affairs, NASA, and the General Services Administration are all adopting Apple’s latest gear in some form or fashion. (It’s also worth noting Microsoft needs to keep a close eye on the situation as the same agencies listed are also making large strides towards webmail services such as Google’s Gmail.)

For government and corporate workers looking to bring more of their civilian/consumer lives to work, things are looking good. The incumbents that have long provided their traditional services, however, are in for a rude awakening.

  • May 31, 2011 12:55 pm

Love Kik Messenger — the (in our eyes) best looking and easiest to use multi-platform chat program? You’re in luck. Kik is giving their biggest fans a chance to be part of the team — beta team that is. The Canadian based company has officially launched a new beta tester program allowing normal people like you to help test upcoming versions of Kik. All you need to do is point your browser right over here.

To date, Kik Messenger has accrued over 3 million users and scored a new round of VC funding totalling $8 million despite being blacklisted by RIM over their insecurities of Kik being better than BlackBerry Messenger and the BlackBerry platform as a whole.

NZXT Outs Source 210/Elite PC Cases And FX Fans Series.

  • May 31, 2011 12:40 pm

Popular PC hardware manufacturer NZXT has been on a roll the last few months with several new interesting products. While today’s announcements concerning the new Source 210 and 210 Elite PC cases as well as FX fan series aren’t groundbreaking, we’re excited nonetheless.

The Source 210/Elite both feature a midtower design in a 195mm x 236mm x 495.5mm footprint. Both cases will support up to 7 120mm fans with the front bay featuring support for dual 120mm fans allowing ample hard drive cooling (or a place to hang a dual-rad if you’re feeling crafty). The Source 210 “Elite” takes things a bit further with tooless drive bays and USB 3.0 inputs. Colors available include black and white while pricing is very reasonable: $39.99/$49.99 for 210 and 210 Elite respectively.

NZXT has also officially taken the wraps off of their new FX fan series which boasts both 120mm and 140mm sizes and a handy 3-stage power design. The multi-stage design will allow the fans to provide anywhere from 35.8 CFM to 96.0 CFM and live a long, healthy life thanks to the Fluid Dynamic Bearings. The 120mm blower will cost $14.99 while the larger 140mm sibling will come in a bit higher at $16.99.

T-Mobile USA Announces Two More Pre-Paid Plans.

  • May 31, 2011 11:40 am

Following last weeks rate plan revamp, T-Mobile let loose two more stragglers today for pre-paid customers. The new plans tip the scales at $50 and $70 with the former offering Unlimited calling + texting and 200 MB of data while the latter pushes the data limit up to 5 GB. As usual, T-Mobile employs data throttling rather than an all out cap which requires more money to unlock more GBs. T-Mobile claims it is 2G/EDGE speeds after you pass your monthly allotment, but we here at GS seem to get much faster than 2G even at 12 GB past our 5 GB cap. (Just sayin’…)

While the prices may not seem all that spectacular, the best part hides in the fact that neither of these plans require a contract. Any takers?
