The main focus of this September’s Apple event may be iPhone specific, but that doesn’t mean Apple is giving up on it’s non-cellular cousin, the iPod Touch. An iFans forum member poking around in some new .plist files found a reference to an iPod Touch 4,2 model. The current iPod Touch features a 4,1 nomenclature. For the record, the same 4,2 verbiage was present in builds of iOS 4.3.3 as well.
While some have speculated that Apple’s typical iPod/Music event in September is pushed back until later in 2011/early 2012, we have a different idea — iPhone/iPod joint announcements from here on out.
Think about it. The iPod Touch is no nothing more than an iPhone without the phone. It doesn’t need an entire event dedicated solely to itself when it shares 98% of the hardware and 100% of the software. If you ask us, the September event’s “one more thing” will be the iPod Touch.
