The main focus of this September’s Apple event may be iPhone specific, but that doesn’t mean Apple is giving up on it’s non-cellular cousin, the iPod Touch. An iFans forum member poking around in some new .plist files found a reference to an iPod Touch 4,2 model. The current iPod Touch features a 4,1 nomenclature. For the record, the same 4,2 verbiage was present in builds of iOS 4.3.3 as well.
While some have speculated that Apple’s typical iPod/Music event in September is pushed back until later in 2011/early 2012, we have a different idea — iPhone/iPod joint announcements from here on out.
Think about it. The iPod Touch is no nothing more than an iPhone without the phone. It doesn’t need an entire event dedicated solely to itself when it shares 98% of the hardware and 100% of the software. If you ask us, the September event’s “one more thing” will be the iPod Touch.

Is Xavier Kaotico (aka: Xavier de Leon or “sabu”) the LulzSec leader? Yes according to a hacker/”hacktivist” by the name of @The3J35t3r. Supposedly Sabu is a New York native who specializes in IT consultant work focusing on Python programming, Linux development, network security and exploit development.
As of writing LulzSec has not publicly acknowledged or responded to claims that Xaiver Kaotico/”Sabu” is the leader, though we don’t expect them to either.
Thus far, the list of targets LulzSec has “sank” include Sony, Citigroup, the CIA, FBI, Arizona police force, PBS, and the U.S. Senate just to name a few.
After a brief mini-war with fellow hacker group Anonymous, the two forces have combined efforts to continue their onslaught against the U.S. Government in an attempt to wage “immediate and unremitting war on the freedom-snatching moderators of 2011.”

Despite a new reassurance by Motorola that the Atrix 4G will see an updated, unlocked bootloader with the upcoming Andorid 2.3 update, the talented and ever persistant Android developer scene has once again bested the handset manufacturer. If you’re too impatient to wait for Motorola’s official release, a new thread has popped up over at XDA that provides the necessary steps, links, and downloads needed get your Atrix 4G up and running unlocked bootloader and all. Of course, the novelty will be fairly low key for now considering there aren’t any custom Atrix 4G ROMs on the market yet. But we digress.
Have at it.

First it was the HTC Desire didn’t have enough memory to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and Sense UI. Then HTC pulled a 180 and claimed the HTC Desire would in fact be getting an Android 2.3 update. At the time, however, HTC failed to provide further information as to how they planned on cramming Android 2.3 on the Desire’s limited memory or what corners would be cut.
Wonder no more dear Desire user for Australian cellular provider, Telstra, has updated an HTC Desire support page that specifically details what changes have been made:
“Due to the increased memory requirements of the Gingerbread update, new software that does not include HTC Sense UI is being prepared.”
While we’re content with keeping Sense around (as opposed to Motorola’s MOTOFAIL), we’d much rather have pure, unclothed Android.
Whataya say Desire owners, fair trade?

New Mac Pros are coming in the next few weeks. This is a given. Exactly what the new Mac Pros will bring to the table is also a given — more power. Though it’s still unknown exactly what hardware the new Mac Pros will pack within as well as how they will look. There’s been rumors of Apple designing the Mac Pros into more of a server-like, rack mountable style.
While we still don’t know what the new Mac Pros will look like, “a reliable source” of 9to5 Mac claims to have a snippet of an internal support document detailing new mid-2011 Mac Pros. Specifically, there four new referenced models: 6-core, 8-core, 12-core and 16-core.
Even though we would never be able to fully utilize 16-cores ourselves, we wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to at least try. Would you?

Several weeks back word leaked out that HTC was in the process of designing a female-specific smartphone. This phone wasn’t detailed in any great shape or form, though was alleged to come in more female-friendly colors and shape. Today, we now have images claiming to be that very phone.
The phone is said to be going by the name “HTC Glamor” internally. The real name, however, is believed to be “Bliss”. As for features, we’re still left out in the cold save for a potential color scheme: yellow, pink and light blue.
Provided the hardware specs are somewhat decent, what do the lady readers of Gadgetsteria think of a special phone just for them?
Following yesterday’s more government focused hack against the Arizona police department, hacker group LulzSec made things a bit more personal today by allegedly releasing login information for some 62,000 accounts pertaining to Facebook, PayPal, Twitter, Xbox Live and several dating websites. Accompanying the release was a new tweet which read ““Envelope yourself in the sickening realization that you secretly love f–king someone’s Facebook life beyond repair.”
PayPal Canada in particular has already responded saying that “they have in no way been hacked” and that the user data gleaned by LulzSec was done so on a less secure third party site.
The hacker acquired usernames and passwords via another, less secure site, and is encouraging criminals to try the username/password combinations on PayPal.com.
“These usernames and passwords are not necessarily associated with PayPal, but if people have used the same usernames/passwords for multiple sites, including PayPal, then their accounts could be accessed by another person.”
The list of Facebook login information in particular contains mostly American accounts, though other countries are affected to a smaller degree: Australia, Brazil, Canada, , New Zealand and United Kingdom.
It goes without saying that if you use Facebook, Twitter, Xbox Live, PayPal, or any online dating service, now would be a good time to change your password.
