Motorola Makes Good On Promise: Atrix 4G Bootloader Unlocked In Android 2.3.3 Update.

  • June 22, 2011 10:38 pm

We’ve been rather critical of Motorola in recent months over their insistance on using locked bootloaders and other root-unfriendly tactics but tonight that changes. While testing a pre-release version of Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread for the Atrix 4G the folks over at BriefMobile found that the bootloader is now unlocked, allowing custom kernels and ROMs!

We’ve heard Motorola claim many times that they were working on bringing unlocked bootloaders to future handsets as well as several currently available devices via update, and that it was ultimately carriers who gave the yay or nay for root-friendly provisions.

Let the fun begin starting this July…

LG Thrill 4G Coming To AT&T “This Summer”.

  • June 22, 2011 10:16 pm

AT&T’s original March announcement of the LG Thrill 4G was followed by an overly vague “in the coming months” release date. Today AT&T has tightened things up a bit with a new press release quoting a release “this summer”. While still vague in the sense there are several months that classify as “summer”, it’s nice to know we still won’t be waiting for the AT&T version of the Optimus 3D into the holiday season.

Besides the numerous 3D additions tacked on, the Thrill will carry a 4.3″ display @ 480 x 800 resolution, 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP4 processor, dual 5-megapixel cameras, 8 GB of storage, and Android 2.2.

Resume waiting…

In an interview between a T-Mobile spokesperson and 9to5 Mac journalist Seth Weintraub, T-Mobile made the claim that they currently have over 1 million unlocked iPhones running on their network — quite the story when you consider the multitude of obstacles standing in AT&T iPhone users’ way when making the jump to T-Mobile. Everything from network incompatibilities, different sized SIM cards, and high prices for unlocked hardware aren’t easy to overcome…

Crysis 2 DirectX11 Patch Dropping June 27th.

  • June 22, 2011 4:28 pm

For several years Crysis has been a great indicator to overall gaming performance as to this day can push some PCs harder than they capable of going. So when the game developers behind Crysis, Crytek, unveiled Crysis 2 and it’s console port-like DX9 support, many cried fowl. Since Crysis 2′s release many weeks back, the initial fanfare has died down, though the criticisms still remain.

But that will soon change thanks to the often rumored DX11 pack that will bring many new, subtle UI tweaks to the game ultimately making it much, much prettier to look at. Everything from dirt, to shadows, to tessellation will now be enabled.

With that said, the image above is but one example of many compliments of NeoGAF. For the full gallery of GIFs, be sure to hit up NeoGAF’s original post which showcases 6 different environments with DX11 features enabled/disabled.

Verizon’s New Data Plans Extensively Detailed! Rip Off, As Expected.

  • June 22, 2011 3:15 pm

Verizons upcoming data plan shake-up is now confirmed for July 7th thanks to a mountain of material leaked to Android Central. Pricing for the lowest data tier now starts at 2 GB for $30/month and climb to $80/month for 10 GB of data. Hotspot access will set you back an additional $20 for 2 GB of data allotment while overages are a flat $10/GB. Pricing is the same for both 3G and 4G.

In short: These plans suck. Majorly.

But don’t take our word for it. Hop inside for the fate of unlimited plans as well as a rather lengthy internal Verizon Wireless email that will probably answer any and all questions you may have…
