As terrible as Verizon’s tiered data plans look, unlimited data aficionados have a bit of luck on their side according to claims made by a Verizon Wireless rep via Twitter. When questioned as to whether or not unlimited data customers could keep their unlimited data plans when upgrading to 4G phones after the July 7th cut off date, a VZW rep responded saying:
“Existing Smartphone custs can keep unlimited data pricing when upgrading to another Smartphone.”
While this is one guy that could very well be wrong, it echos similar claims and rumors currently racing around the web at large. Hopefully said rep is right for the sake of tech-loving folk everywhere. A 2 GB cap on an LTE device that is supposed to tap into all of these exciting web-based services and features is border line useless without a miniature Fort Knox in your basement.
Apple made iOS notifications wholly better in iOS 5 with the Android-esque drop down shade. But they forgot one core app — the phone. While all other notifications can now be relegated to a much less intrusive banner notification, new phone calls still rip you out of the currently open program, interrupting an otherwise seamless experience. Thankfully, the jailbreak community has delivered once again with a new Cydia tweak that adds call notifications to the same notification window and banner style.
The new tweak isn’t yet available yet but according to the two devs behind the hack — @limneos and @sh8kespeare — availability will be “soon”.
Will Apple “borrow” another jailbreak feature in time for iOS 5′s official debut?

Because no Android device is truly in tip top shape until a custom ROM has been applied, we bring you news that Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1 is now available. The more notable features added to the roster include the ability to adjust display brightness simply by sliding your finger on the status bar as well as Bluetooth mouse support. The full changelog, however, is rather lengthy. Of course your best bet is to just download the latest RC1 build and find out for yourself just how awesome Android can be when helped along by talented devs.

Is sure seems like Microsoft is taking their sweet time in bringing Mango to market. Hopefully it’s because they’re jam packing it with features and getting every last bug out of said update before it drops. But while we wait how about a little more info on upcoming Mango features including new HTML goodies and Xbox Live integration…?

With Nokia’s mind already set on Windows Phone 7, it seems that any Symbian-powered devices planned for release are DOA. But alas, up to 10 new Symbian devices are planned for 2011 starting with the N5 you see above.
While details are still non-existent, it’s readily apparent that Nokia is hoping physical flare will hide mid-range specs from most. With that said, being a Nokia means we can expect a rather high megapixel count.
Besides the N5, murmurs of a Nokia N6, N7, etc. have been mentioned. Symbian lovers rejoice?

Apple is stepping up their anti-jailbreaking gusto in iOS 5.0. The current act of saving SHSH blobs to downgrade a particular device to a particular OS after Apple has stopped signing it isn’t too terribly difficult. In iOS 5, however, Apple has tweaked “APTicket” to function much like “BBTicket” always has — security keys and such will be checked on every reboot instead of merely every restore. Without getting too technical and creating glassy-eyed zombies out of all of you, take away this: Untethered jailbreaking in iOS 5 is going to get tougher.
But there is hope! Tethered jailbreaks should still be fairly easy to obtain. On the same note, Limera1n will still work as it happens before the system of checks above. Though few would argue that such a setup isn’t favorable for the long haul.
Here’s to hoping the jailbreak developers can once again out-think Apple and stay one step ahead of the game.

LulzSec stunned the world yesterday when they announced their retirement from the hacking scene at large. Though the did so with one final, massive data dump featuring everything from AT&T documents to that of random gaming forums. Luckily for us there was some rather interesting AT&T information specifically pertaining to the next-gen iPhone, iPad, and LTE…
