Fancy a little Time Warner Cable entertainment on your newly jailbroken iPad? Too bad the latest update for said app specifically blocks “jailbroken” devices from working, instead leaving a message saying:
TWCable is not supported on “jailbroken” devices.
Please restore your iPad to factory defaults, then re-install TWCable.
In short: Time Warner Cable hates you and the option of choice. On top of that, Time Warner Cable is basically telling you to get your mobile media fix elsewhere. (I hear Hulu and Netflix are all the rage these days.) With that said, TWC is likely taking these measures because of the increased ability to pirate copyrighted content on jailbroken devices. Though basing a blanket ban based solely on jailbreak status is a pretty stupid move on their part as it makes competing services such as Hulu and Netflix — who don’t unnecessarily block customers using jailbroken devices — look all that much better.
*Tip for Time Warner: Don’t be a douche by thinking your an internet cop. You’re not. And this knee jerk reaction of blocking jailbroken devices makes your service less valuable. Bang up job, guys…
