ASUS Releases $200 Laptop Powered By MeeGo.

  • July 27, 2011 9:28 am

Nokia’s one time saving grace, MeeGo, may not be the cherry of the company’s eye any longer, but that doesn’t mean the market for MeeGo hardware will waste away. Completely unrelated — the race for a “$100″ laptop began many years ago to much fanfare. After numerous failed deadlines and subpar hardware, it became realized that a real, usable $100 was all but impossible. Today ASUS rebuffs such claims by using a single stone to kill one bird and seriously wound another: Introducing the $200 Eee PC X101 laptop.

Power comes in the form of a single-core Atom N435 processor running @ a mere 1.33 GHz, 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 8 GB SSD, and 10.1″ 1024 x 600 display. Other perks include a standard SD card slot with support for up to 32 GB cards and a 3-cell 2600 mAh battery. If MeeGo isn’t your thing, a Windows 7 version can be had for $249.

HTC: “We Will Appeal ITC Verdict.”

  • July 27, 2011 7:33 am

HTC appears to be covering all bases concerning the recent ITC ruling which found the Taiwanese company infringing on two of Apple’s patents. Earlier this week HTC said they were seeking some sort of licensing deal with Apple. But late yesterday, HTC CFO Winston Yung told Reuters that the company is in fact in the process of filing an appeal, citing a “strong case”.

HTC’s recent purchase of S3 Graphics could possibly help not only in this current case with Apple, but with other smartphone manufacturers as well considering S3′s own unique yet popular patents.

Look for a final verdict December 6th.

WiMAX Equipped Samsung Galaxy S II Hits FCC.

  • July 27, 2011 6:49 am

AT&T’s Galaxy S II may have already been seen parading around with its keyboard hanging out, but some phones are a bit more mysterious. Take for example Sprint’s own Galaxy S II and it’s stealthy moves through the FCC. The overall specs of their GSII remain wholly unchanged from AT&T’s save for the important addition of WiMAX. Besides a guaranteed hit on battery life, the WiMAX equipped Galaxy S II also grows in length by 5mm and width by an additional 2mm. Other than that, Sprint’s Galaxy S II looks to mimic the euro version quite well. Considering we’re seeing the official FCC documentation should mean a public release isn’t too far off. Updates as they become available…

Apple To Grace Our Finger Tips With Ultra Thin 15″ MacBook Pro??

  • July 26, 2011 11:31 pm

The sources smuggling information to the MacRumor crew have released some neat little tidbits into the future of our beloved MacBook family. Apple is rumored to be in the late testing stages of an ultra thin 15″ MacBook Pro. We aren’t sure if this will have the Pro branding or get the sexy Air brand, but we can all agree this is a good step by Apple.

Over the past couple years we’ve seen many updates to the entire line of MacBooks – most recently the Air line which in turn gave us the loss of the plain ‘ol white MacBook. All in all, even with the current lineup we have, they are all pretty. But with ultra portability and sexy design at the forefront of our minds when purchasing, Apple has to keep up. After releasing the beauty that is the 2011 Airs, we’re left wondering what’ll happen to the bigger beefier older brother. With the last update for the Pros being back in February – it can definitely be time for some changes come the Holidays, which is when the new releases are rumored to happen.

Apple is speculated to take design tips from the Air and drop em into the MacBook Pro line – which would give the MacBook line design change, something we haven’t seen in years. We are hoping to see the notebooks slimmed out, utilize a SSD drive but also elevate the optical drive. It’s 2011, soon to be 2012, no one uses compact discs anymore – especially for software. If Apple can create an Air like notebook with Pro like guts – we’ll be all over em.

TUAW chimes in saying that these will fall into the Pro branding – along with a 17″ model.

First WP7 Mango Handset Going To…Japan.

  • July 26, 2011 11:17 pm

Sorry U.S. The first WP7 phone to be released with the tasty Mango update won’t be us. Instead, Japan will be the first country to see said new update and have it featured on a new Fujitsu device running atop KDDI’s network this September.

The phone itself is known as the Toshiba-Fujitsu IS12T and is rumored to be powered by a 1 Ghz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU. The display tips the scales at 3.7″ while the camera is gigantic at 13.2 megapixels. The 32 GB of storage is rather plump, though it’s the “waterproof” label that has us most intrigued.

Sounds like a pretty sweet device if you ask us. Too bad we’ll have to wait.

Sprint’s 2011 EOL List Leaked. Good-bye EVO 4G.

  • July 26, 2011 2:56 pm

That EVO 4G in your hand is a pretty hot piece — by 2010 standards. We’ve since seen the arrival of the much more powerful, dual-core EVO 3D. And before years end, Sprint is scheduled to see a handful more of awesome hardware that will make you question how you ever came to love something as archaic as the original EVO 4G.

Introducing: The 2011 Sprint End of Life list. While most of the devices featured are mid- to low-range fodder, more prominent names getting the boot include the aforementioned EVO 4G and Epic 4G this October — the only Galaxy S phone that features a sliding QWERTY keyboard (for now) — as well as BlackBerry 9650 and Curve a month prior in September.

While many of you will stick by your trusty phones for a good deal longer, are any of you at least feeling the upgrade itch?
