HTC Puccini Breaks Cover.

  • July 26, 2011 11:57 am

BGR is on a roll today. First the AT&T Galaxy S II and now the 10″ HTC Puccini tablet. Specs aren’t very hearty at this point and are in fact more rumor than concrete. Nonetheless, the most popular figures claim the tablet packs a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor, 8-megapixel camera w/ dual-LED flash, Honeycomb w/ HTC’s Sense UI, and most importantly, LTE. With even the basics up in the air, don’t even begin to question more important matters such as pricing and release date. More info as we find it. Check out the full gallery right over here.

AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Gets Snapped!

  • July 26, 2011 10:48 am

The ever elusive U.S.-bound Samsung Galaxy S II (SGH-I927) has finally been caught — for real. The new images confirm earlier leaks showing a Samsung-made device packing a sliding QWERTY keyboard and Andorid 2.3.4.

Before you whip out your wallet, make note that we have absolutely no idea of official pricing or release date. Add to that AT&T’s utterly terrible track record as far as Android updates are concerned and this seemingly good news turns a bit more bittersweet.

Still, we wouldn’t mind giving up a few hard earned dollars for the privilege of making this our own. Two more images after the jump…

For users eyeing the 10.1″ Galaxy Tab in particular and wanting to forgo the 3G/4G option, a WiFi-only model is scheduled to also ship July 28th for $499.

Mowing through data comes in the form of 2 GB/5 GB/10 GB plans for the Galaxy Tab and 5 GB/10 GB plans for the HP. Pricing for said plans is the now standard $30/$50/$80 respectively. Look for all the fun to go down July 28th.

Will you give in to these new devices or keep your moneys under lock and key for the upcoming DROID Bionic uber phone?

Gevey SIM Still Works On iOS 4.3.5. Still Likely Blocked In 5.0 And Beyond.

  • July 26, 2011 9:51 am

It goes without saying, iPhone users who must keep their unlock at all costs need to avoid iOS updates like the plague. For users not wanting to abstain from iOS updates and still get the unlock they so dearly crave, there are tools like the Gevey SIM. Unfortunately such freedoms come at the expense of your wireless account — but more on that in a minute. For now, just know that while Apple has patched the bug that allows the Gevey SIM to work in the iOS betas still exists in the latest iOS 4.3.5 meaning — for now — Gevey SIM users can update if need be and retain their unlock.

Now, the real reason to worry isn’t that Apple is blocking the Gevey SIM from future versions of iOS, but instead what kind of trouble Gevey SIM users could get into. In simple terms, the Gevey SIM dials emergency number “112″ (just like 911) and then promptly hangs up giving you unfettered, unlocked access. The obvious problem with this is constantly dialing said number and then disconnecting is likely to get your phone and/or wireless account blacklisted at some point down the line. Never mind the fact local authorities could show up at your door. For the record, the 112 method is illegal in the U.S. (among other places).

So while it’s good news in one sense, bad news is laced within.

Do you use the Gevey SIM and want to share your experience so far?

Spotify One Week Later: 70,000 U.S. Subscribers And Counting.

  • July 26, 2011 9:35 am

The popular european-based streaming service, Spotify, has been available in the U.S. for a little over a week now. What do they have to show for themselves?

According to Billboard whom cites three separate labels/publisher executives, Spotify has now crossed 70,000+ paying subscribers. To put that in comparison’s sake, Rhapsody has over 800,000 subscribers — though they’ve been in business since as far back as 2001. (I’m waiting to hear back from Spotify on any official numbers.)

While I have talked about Spotify many times on Gadgetsteria over the last couple of years, I must admit that I cancelled my subscription after 5 days. Why? Despite a 15,000,000+ song library of, I found a lot of the more obscure/indie/european music that I listen to was either sorely lacking or nonexistent — an odd trait considering the European roots. Nonetheless, I still think Spotify is a great service that everyone should at least try.

Any U.S. based Spotify newbies care to share their experiences thus far?
