Is This AT&T’s First LTE Phone?

  • August 23, 2011 12:47 pm

It’ll still be many months before AT&T has an LTE phone prepped and ready for public consumption (as well as a network to power said phone), but BGR has potentially broken the deathstar’s secret. The phone you see before you is allegedly AT&T’s first LTE phone, the Samsung Impulse 4G. Specs aren’t known quite yet meaning the “4G” moniker could very denote support for AT&T’s sub-par HSPA+ network. Given the similarities to the DROID Charge, it could be a GSM/AT&T flavor along the same family line. Check back for more info soon…

Steampunk’d NYC Loft Is The Man Cave Of Man Caves.

  • August 23, 2011 12:37 pm

It’s been quite a while since we’ve highlighted a steampunk’d piece of life that’s rendered us truly speechless. It’s been so long in fact, we don’t remember the last time such an event occurred. With that said we’re pretty sure this steampunk’d 1,800 sq. ft. apartment in New York City’s Chelsea district is the pinnacle of steampunk ideology. 500 lb. gears, vintage recliners, a door that is a friggin’ submarine portal, sepia colored concrete floors and more ooze the old time look at every turn. There’s even a 32-foot Zeppelin model that lights up the living room! Literally everything in this ultimate man/geek cave is designed to model the that steampunk junkies live and die for.

Seriously, you need to check this out. Hop past the break for a video showing off the steampunk goodness as well as a gallery chock full of eye candy…

Uh Oh: Barnes & Noble Oversold TouchPad During Weekend Fire Sale.

  • August 23, 2011 9:48 am

In the few months HP gave webOS before pulling the plug, never before had there been so much demand for a webOS device as their was over the weekend during a crazy $100 fire sale for TouchPad tablets. The only “problem” per say is that they sold out so fast. With that said, Barnes & Noble in particular was one of the last places to still have stock available online for order. But it was all a lie apparently — the company oversold the TouchPad.

An email posted to Reddit by one unlucky TouchPad hopeful confirms that B&N did in fact oversell the TouchPad. We’d had to be that guy…

You’re Doing It Wrong: Microsoft Suing To Block Sale Of 1+ Year Old Motorola Android Phones.

  • August 23, 2011 9:36 am

Using lawsuits to keep your competitors from getting too far ahead is a trait that far too many tech companies rely on these days. Over the past several months at least, it seems this tactic has exploded in popularity with Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Motorola and many more kicking the court room battles up several notches. So it’s with great sadness we highlight a new lawsuit brought forth by Microsoft signaling out Motorola and the alleged infringement on seven Microsoft patents.

In Microsoft’s lawsuit, they seek to ban the import and sale of several Motorola Android phones including the Droid 2, Droid X, Cliq XT, Devour, Backflip and Charm. What’s humorous is that it appears the focus is on these phones exclusively and not all of Motorola’s Android lineup — phones that are ~ 1+ year old and sorely out dated. We understand the idea behind suing to keep competitors at bay (as opposed to actually producing something consumers want). But suing to block the sale of old hardware that no one cares about anymore? What is Microsoft thinking?

Motorola Mobility has publicly responded to Microsoft’s lawsuit by stating that they are “vigorously defending” themselves “against Microsoft’s patent attack business strategy” and that they have “brought legal actions of our own in the U.S. and in Europe to address Microsoft’s large scale of infringement of Motorola Mobility’s patents”. Judge Theodore Essex is scheduled to reveal his findings on November 4th while the commission is seeking to have the investigation completed by March 5th of 2012.

RIM Announces A Trio Of New OS 7 Packin’ BlackBerry Curves.

  • August 23, 2011 9:16 am

We always drool over a company’s top tier products. But many times the more mid-range fodder is just as exciting (mostly). In regards to BlackBerries, RIM’s latest 9930 Bold is a hot piece with it’s fast 1.2 GHz (single-core) processor and higher resolution 640 x 480 display. But if you’d like to have most of RIM’s newest design and feature additions alongside BlackBerry OS 7 but don’t want to break the bank, one of their newly announced BlackBerry Curve devices may be just the ticket.

The new 9350, 9360 and 9370 all share a slower clocked 800 MHz processor, 5-megapixel camera and 480 x 360 resolution display. The 9350/60 make due with 512 MB of RAM while the 9370 features 1 GB just like it’s 99xx siblings. As far as connectivity options go, the 9350 is HSPA/GSM compatible with the 9360 pulling CDMA/EVDO duties. Finally, the higher end Curve 9370 gets dual-mode GSM/CDMA capabilities to go along with that extra 512 MB of RAM. As an added bonus, the 9360/70 will also feature support for UMA calling — calling over WiFi networks — provided the carrier in question supports it. Here in the U.S. at least, the number of carriers actively supporting UMA is basically just T-Mobile.

They seem decent enough. Thoughts?

Intel Pushes Cedar Trail Back to November Citing Graphics Driver Issues.

  • August 23, 2011 12:07 am

Intel’s impending launch of the Cedar Trail chipset won’t see the light of day just yet. Originally scheduled to drop in September, Intel’s next-gen Atom chipset has apparently encountered some graphics driver issues meaning public consumption has been pushed back until sometime in October. Also joining the party late will be Intel’s Atom D2700 and D2500 processors.

In case you find yourself being mercilessly tortured by curiosity, Cedar Trail will bring PC Sync, DirectX 10.1, Intel Wireless Display, Fast Boot and Intel Wireless Music to Intel’s ultra mobile platform.

Shocker: HP Killed webOS With Limited Resources, Poor Management And Abysmal Support.

  • August 22, 2011 11:42 pm

Yet more bad news in a string of negative webOS headlines flowing forth after HP’s untimely announcement is a new post (Reddit) that sheds light on just how screwed up HP is and just how chaotic everything is within HP’s inner sanctum. The poster, “amaathrowaway”, claims to be a “hardware guy” working at HP on webOS. He details how HP had several new phones and tablet devices that were this close to seeing the public spotlight, but that were ultimately killed off due to either poor software, poor hardware, decisions by upper management or all of the above. Yeah, it’s that bad. Hop past the break for the cringe-worthy details…
