Samsung Set to Announce Galaxy SII And 8.9″ Galaxy Tab With LTE.

  • August 28, 2011 3:02 pm

Samsung’s Galaxy S II smartphone has dominated the Android landscape across the pond in Europe. While we here in the states are finally this close to getting our own taste of Samsung’s latest and greatest, the company is set to one-up themselves this coming week at Berlin’s IFA conference. There, Samsung will officially unveil slightly tweaked Galaxy S II phones and an 8.9″ Galaxy Tab with one very important feature — LTE.

But there’s more. Besides the faster wireless goodness, Sammy has managed to bring a faster 1.5 GHz dual-core processor to both devices. Finally, the Galaxy S II in particular will also get a screen upgrade to 4.5″ (AMOLED).

Pricing and release are still up in the air. Also unknown: How Sammy and Apple’s currently waging patent war overseas will affect the new devices there as well as here in the states.

Review: Wicked Audio Metalics Earphones.

Is there really all that much of a difference between the seemingly endless supply of headphones? While we’d come forward and say yes, there is, we’re certainly open to the idea of wide-scale testing before coming to a final conclusion. In short: we love reviewing stuff.

Today we’ve got the Wicked Audio Metalics earphones in-house and have given them a once over. Check out our thoughts after the break…

Rumor: Facebook For iPad Dropping At September 22nd F8 Developer Conference.

  • August 28, 2011 12:44 pm

This past Thursday, Facebook announced their f8 developer conference. While the conference will already be one of Facebook’s biggest, most important conferences to date — with a potential IPO in the company’s near future — it is rumors that CEO Mark Zuckerberg will officially announce/launch Facebook’s iPad app that have the most buzz.

For now we’ll have to merely guess for Zuckerberg (and Facebook) aren’t letting on to what the September 22nd event will cater to specifically.

Bust Out The Camping Gear: Best Buy Getting More HP TouchPad Shipments.

  • August 27, 2011 1:23 am

If you’re thinking of picking up a grossly overpriced HP Touchpad on Ebay after missing the recent fire sale, wait! Droid Matters received a screenshot earlier tonight showing an internal Best Buy screen claiming more TouchPads are on the way. The only difference between then and now is that Best Buy will now make use of a ticket system due to “large crowds”. Unfortunately, no date is given as to when we can expect to see the new TouchPad shipments and BB employees don’t even know themselves.

As for TouchPad hopefuls following the Android initiative — there are already several different system dumps floating around from early ports. Interesting stuff.

You know how it is — do the F5 tap-tap tango…

The Bionic Man And His Video Camera Eye Implant.

  • August 26, 2011 10:49 pm

As much as it would suck to lose an eye, the possibilities for nerds such as ourselves begin to take off. Why without the limited in scope eyeball we’re born with, there’s just enough room for a little sci-fi action to take place.

Meet Toronto’s Rob Spence. After a shooting accident left his right eye completely useless at an early age, Spence recently came up with the idea to put that dead space to use by having a custom video camera molded and created to fit completely inside of his eye socket.

Today, Spence is involved in an ongoing real-life documentary that will be primarily filmed from Spence’s point of view compliments of Omnivision’s tiny 3.2mm, 328 x 258 video camera, looking at how “future tech” is in many ways already here.

While Spence’s implementation of future tech doesn’t actually help restore his lost vision, it is cool nonetheless. If you have to lose an eye, why not have a little fun with the whole situation, no?

Razer Launches Blade, Ultra Thin 17″ Gaming Laptop.

  • August 26, 2011 2:12 pm

Words such as “ultra thin” and “gaming laptop” rarely blend together well. But if anyone could pull it off it would be PC gaming accessory manufacturer, Razer. Today the company announced their all new 17″ ultra thin gaming laptop dubbed “Blade”. While the Blade tips the scales at a rather svelte (as far as gaming laptops go) 6.97 lbs. and 0.88″ thick, it’s no slouch. Power comes courtesy of an Intel Core i7 2.8GHz 2640M CPU, 8 GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with 2 GB of memory 60 Wh battery and a 7200 RPM 320 GB hard drive. I/O options are of course plentiful — USB 2.0/3.0, HDMI-out, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0. The screen is of course 17.3″ and touts 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The above specs are certainly boast worthy but it is the embedded LCD into the Blade’s keyboard that really turns heads. To activate the 480 x 800 LCD and accompanying 10-key pad, users simply activate Razer’s proprietary “Switchblade UI” to unlock an in-game information panel or multi-touch mouse/touchpad.

The Blade is currently scheduled to launch in Q4 of this year for ~$2,800. For now, it’s unclear whether or not Razer will offer up any user customizable options at checkout.

Gadgetsteria’s take: Hell yeah! While we would prefer some beefier graphics capabilities, the overall package crammed into its tiny, aluminum case is definitely lust worthy. Any takers?

iPhone 4S/5 Logic Board Allegedly Caught On Camera.

  • August 26, 2011 1:56 pm

Following earlier leaks of an alleged iPhone 4S/5 battery (as well as a redesigned antenna system), AppleLeaks has released an image today claiming to depict the iPhone 4S/5 logic board. For those with currently glazing eyes, the big thing to notice is the large rectangular black chip on the left image near the top. It’s shape and size is a strong indicator (the A4 is more squarish) that the dual-core A5 processor found in the iPad 2 is in fact coming to the next-gen iPhone.

Another and less important change can be seen on either bottom corner of each logic board. The circular cutouts for the vibration motor are now similar. The current GSM iPhone 4 uses an older style vibration motor whereas the CDMA iPhone 4 uses the newer, circular type.
