Yesterday it was jailbreak developer “Comex” that stunned quite a few by announcing his new upcoming internship at Apple. For someone who has spent so many years “on the run” from the very same company, it’s pretty amusing to see the tides turn. As for his jailbreak activities, we can’t see Comex continuing too much longer given his new employer’s past views on the practice of jailbreaking.
Today another iOS jailbreak dev sheds doubt on his own future. @chpwn has mentioned via Twitter that while he’s not joining Apple — a reply jokingly directed at some who have been vocalizing worries regarding future jailbreak efforts — he’s also getting bored (presumably with iOS/jailbreaking) and may not continue doing it much longer.
“I’m not joining Apple, but I’m also bored and probably not going to do much more jailbreak stuff. Probably.”
We’re not too worried at the moment. Chpwn’s statement is far from final. Not to mention, someone will rise up through the ranks and take over the jailbreak developer’s limelight. Worried?

While the current trend of ongoing iPhone 5 rumors point to a more radically designed and more powerful device, the “iPhone 4S” keeps coming back into the picture. After photos alleging to depict the next-gen iPhone 4S’ redesigned antenna leaked late yesterday comes a new leak showing off a prototype iPhone’s white back cover. “N94″ is printed on the case — a number which just so happens to have been associated with the next-gen iPhone in past builds of iOS 4.x and 5.x.
Now, it’s not clear whether this is the iPhone 4S/cloud iPhone or the actual iPhone 5. If it’s the latter it would instantly go against many of the rumors (and cases) we’ve seen trickling out over the last couple of weeks. Of course, if the dual iPhone (iPhone 4S/5) approach is Apple’s new plan moving forward, we’re only seeing half of the puzzle. Not to mention Chinese case manufacturers rushing to get cases out for new phones ahead of time have proven to be wrong before.
If anything, the next-gen iPhone outlook is still massively convoluted and uncertain. There could be one device. There could be two. We just don’t know. The case above may not even be the final iPhone 4S/5 casing. Apple is likely using iPhone 4 hardware to house next-gen internals to keep prying eyes from leaking their secrets early.
We’ll all know soon enough, however, as the rumored early September to early October announcement/launch date is readily approaching.

There aren’t too many Android apps/games at the moment that truly “impress” us. That’s not to say they’re not good games. But in terms of UI/graphics there’s plenty to be had. Nvidia’s upcoming Tegra 3/Kal-el quad-core processor will help such matters with it’s copious amounts of power and potential. And while Tegra 3/Kal-el hasn’t even been officially announced yet, games are already starting to appear in the company’s Tegra Zone app store…

RIM’s floudering PlayBook tablet is constantly updated with minor maintenance updates, but they need something bigger. Introducing: PlayBook OS/QNX 2.0. The images after the break give a quick glimpse into what RIM’s next major update for the PlayBook’s QNX-powered OS will look like (spoiler: pretty much identical).

Hopefully you weren’t planning on getting cozy with Google’s Slide-made services. Google just killed them off. All of them…

In not so sad Apple news: Infamous iOS jailbreaker, Comex, will soon be inside the frenemies headquarters. Today, the hacker/dev announced that he’ll be starting a new internship with Apple week after next.
Is Apple finally starting to embrace the jailbreak scene or simply continuing their trend of making iOS the best that it can be?
Spill your thoughts after the break…

Two of current/potential PlayBook owners’ biggest requests — native email and BlackBerry Messenger support — is finally coming in September. At least, that’s what the current rumor coming from Bloomberg is reporting. Apparently, the source of this latest rumor is the same one that mentioned the possibility of QNX phones getting the same Android app support the PlayBook features…well, will feature once RIM releases the Android app player.
Since April, the story behind the severe delay in native apps for email, BBM and more has centered around RIM’s BIS/BES setup. Currently it is impossible for an account to be split across two pins (as each BlackBerry device requiring its own pin). Because this is the core backbone of how BlackBerry operates, we can understand the obstacles that have to be overcome. Still, the fact of the matter is RIM rushed out an unfinished product and it shows. Here’s to hoping Bloomberg’s source comes out on top.
