Apotheker Lives To Cut Another Day: Evening Board Meaning Fails To Reach Decision On Successor.

  • September 21, 2011 10:41 pm

Now infamous CEO (and not for a good reason) Leo Apotheker appears to have lady luck on his side. Earlier today a rumor began circulating claiming the HP board was looking at giving him the axe. But that axe won’t be coming down on Apotheker just yet.

The WSJ is reporting a board meaning that took place just a few short hours ago failed to come to a conclusion on any possible Apotheker successors. On the same note, another HP-related rumor floating around suggested former eBay CEO Meg Whitma could up for consideration for the CEO title. From what we’ve seen and heard, however, Whitma isn’t all that popular either.

Considering former HP CEO Mark Hurd spent several years gleaning a rather impressive consumer PC company it’s pretty said to see the now current captain of the ship all but gutting Hurd’s vision to an uninspiring shell. Nonetheless we just hope that either (1) Apotheker gets out of this enterprise minset or (2) is replaced. As it stands now, the latter is looking better by the day.

New Facebook Music “Listen With Your Friend” Feature Revealed By Careless Tweet.

  • September 21, 2011 9:22 pm

A potential major part of Facebook’s F8 event that starts tomorrow was just leaked. Facebook’s new creative director, Ji Lee, tweeted out the statement to your right earlier tonight.

The “Listen with your friend” feature in ticker is blowing my mind. Listen to what your friends are listening. LIVE.

It goes without saying Lee deleted the tweet just a few minutes later. But it’s too late now. The cat is out of the bag.

Tomorrow Facebook will officially take the wraps off of a number of new Facebook features with the biggest rumored to be centered around music, music streaming, scrobbling, live song sharing between friends and more. It’s going to be a busy day…

AT&T Early Upgrade Eligibility Dates Start Creeping, Pointing Towards October 13th Street Date?

  • September 21, 2011 8:03 pm

The latest rumors peg the official iPhone 5 announcement/revealing for October 4th. Awesome. So when can we actually buy it?

Well, according to AT&T early upgrade changes discovered by Twitter user @Mataroo, October 13th is looking like “the day”. According to Matt, all four of his lines will be able to make use of a “reduced price upgrade” — his normal full 2-year discount won’t be ready until November. Is this a sign of things (specifically iPhone related) things to come? Maybe/maybe not.

We checked our own AT&T account and found that we too are already eligible for a “reduced price upgrade” despite our full 2-year discount not being ready to come out of the oven until February 14th, 2012. It’s worth noting we noticed this reduced price upgrade note on our account as far back as two and a half weeks ago. We didn’t see any mention of the October 13th date anywhere (on our account) as reported by Matt. There’s still time, though.

In short: It’s still a crapshoot.

AT&T Galaxy S II Launching October 2nd For $199.

  • September 21, 2011 12:26 pm

iPhone 5. Psh. Over rated. Nexus Prime. No thanks. Galaxy S II. Now we’re talkin’. While Samsung’s Galaxy S II is many months late to the U.S. market, the excitement over it’s launch is still chugging along. Sprint and T-Mobile just unveiled their own self-branded Galaxy S II devices a few days back. Today it is AT&T’s turn.

Come October 2nd you will be able to pick up your very own HSPA+ supporting, AT&T logo-sporting Galaxy S II. Specs are actually a bit different from Sprint ant T-Mobile: 1.2 GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 4.3″ Super AMOLED Plus display (480 x 800), 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, 8-megapixel (rear) camera, and just about everything else a high-end Android device should ship with these days (except LTE).

While the GSII looks impressive on paper and is certainly a sight to behold, at this point in the year we’re firmly against any big handset purchases, especially considering that the iPhone 5 and Nexus Prime are due out within the next 1-2 months. If only this phone would have been released back in the Spring…

Bionic What? HTC Releases “Raider” Smartphone, Features Dual-Core 1.5 GHz Processor And Support For 100 Mbps LTE.

  • September 21, 2011 10:14 am

Verizon and Motorola’s current flagship Bionic smartphone may be the cats meow thanks to the powerful trifecta — dual-core CPU + LTE + 1 GB of RAM — but its reign will be short lived. Besides the drool-worthy Nexus Prime we’ve heard about a time or two before, the newly announced HTC Raider brings its own brag worthy specs to the table.

Very soon South Koreans (sorry everyone) will get access to the Raider’s dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 4.5″ qHD IPS (540 x 960) display, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage, and support for 100 Mbps/50 Mbps down/up LTE (once the networks support it) as well as the “old fashioned” 21 Mbps HSPA+.

As we said above, South Korea is the only planned market for now. Though according to rumors around the web, AT&T could very well see a re-branded super phone here in the states in the not too distant future. Pricing: MIA.

Cellular South Re-Branding Recent Buyouts Under “Personalized Wireless” Brand.

  • September 21, 2011 9:19 am

Customers of small, southern wireless carriers recently acquired by Cellular South will soon have a new place to call home. “Personalized Wireless” as it’s being called will be the official name for the mashup of carriers in select regional markets (read: this isn’t a national deal). As of writing there isn’t anything to go by other than this simple webpage with a countdown timer.

Stay tuned…

Report: iPhone 5 Being Unveiled October 4th.

  • September 21, 2011 7:00 am

Mark your calendars. The iPhone 5 is being unveiled October 4th. The report comes by way of AllThingD’s John Paczkowski, and details how recently appointed CEO, Tim Cook, will lead the event. But he won’t be alone. Several other Apple executives will join Cook on stage to demo various features and services — same as previous iOS events.

It’s important to note that the October 4th date isn’t final. Any delay in manufacturing or last minute software glitches could push the date further back into October. With that said, Paczkowski claims the actual public launch of the iPhone 5 will come a few weeks after the announcement and putting it towards the end of mid-October release rumors.
