Griffin Announces The “MultiDock”: Multi-device iOS Charging Stations For The Office.

  • September 29, 2011 12:30 pm

Mac IT gurus (or those of you with a fat collection of iOS hardware) will be pleased to know Griffin Technologies has a new uber dock, appropriately called the “MultiDock”. The new station(s) will house iOS devices (cases and skins included) within the steel enclosure and come in 10, 20, and 30-bay sizes. On top of that, up to three MultiDocks can be linked together providing easy expandability. The only sad part is the sticker shock: $699.99 to $1799.99. But given the corporate focus it’s not out of the norm. Call us careless with our money, we wouldn’t mind have a couple of these in-house…

Samsung Announces 16 Megapixel CMOS Sensor For Mobile Devices.

  • September 29, 2011 11:08 am

Camera phones are about to get a lot more serious thanks to the new Samsung made S5K2P1 CMOS sensor that packs a whopping 16 megapixels of resolution. Though as we’ve told you many times before, sheer resolution isn’t everything. As such, the S5K2P1 features a back-lit sensor for (in theory) better low-light performance. On top of that, this gigantor chip will shoot native 16:9 video at 60fps meaning mobile video buffs should be more than tickled too.

The hardware is currently sampling and should hit mass production by the end of 2011. 2012: the year of the 16 megapixel phone. Crazy.

T-Mobile Planning To Release $60 Mid-Tier Plan With Lower 2 GB Data (Throttling) Cap.

  • September 29, 2011 9:10 am

Right now users of T-Mobile’s post-paid offerings have two choices a $50 for unlimited minutes/texts and a paltry 100 MB of data and a $70/month plan which keeps the unlimited minutes/texts and raises the data (throttling) cap to 5 GB.

A leaked screenshot circulating today appears to show T-Mobile will soon be announcing a mid-tier $60/month plan. Said plan will feature unlimited minutes/texts and 2 GB of data. To be clear, none of T-Mobile’s plans actually cut off data and require an added charge when you hit the limit. Speeds are simply throttled down to 2/2.5G speeds.

There isn’t any mention of a date for when we can expect this new plan to drop. Given the fiercely competitive nature the holiday season brings, we’ll place our bets then.

Spotify Rolling Out Desktop Update With “Private Listening Mode”.

  • September 29, 2011 8:46 am

It appears Spotify is finally caving to pressure from a growing wave of disgruntled users over the company’s new auto-share-to-Facebook feature. CEO Daniel Ek just tweeted that an update is rolling out that will enable a new “private listening mode” found directly within the Spotify > File menu.

Currently there is an option to turn of the aforementioned feature, though it’s buried in the preferences menu and is labeled with “Get personal recommendations by sending music you play to your Facebook timeline.”

For those of you who were none too pleased with the auto-share feature, is the new private listening mode enough to win you back?

This Is Facebook’s Project Spartan (And It’s Coming Early Next Week).

  • September 29, 2011 7:10 am

Facebook. Project Spartan. Close the books. TechCrunch has scored the final scoop. Someone at Facebook accidentally let the new HTML 5 “Spartan”-ized Facebook out to roam before it was ready. TechCrunch is

We can't wait because let's be real with each other -- Facebook's mobile app sucks. Here's to hoping Spartan is better.

In other news: Facebook's official iPad app (which has apparently been done since May) will also drop the same day as Spartan, early next week.

Lodsys vs. Mobile Developers: Where Are They Now?

  • September 29, 2011 6:52 am

For a little while over the summer patent troll and overall sapper of life, Lodsys, was incredibly busy suing small time mobile developers over several patents pertaining to in-app purchasing. First it was iOS developers, followed soon after by Android. And then in late August Lodsys came back from a few week break to suck BlackBerry developers into the fold.

If you recall, after several weeks of desperate pleas by iOS developers, Apple finally entered the fight, but only partially. Their repeated attempts at asserting their dominance in the ongoing lawsuits was rather mild.

With all that said where do we stand now and how have things progressed?

No where. Right now it’s a “wait and see” approach as to whether or not Lodsys will get pulled into a federal court outside of East Texas, a region known for siding with patent trolls and similar lawsuits.

If you’re the type that enjoys following such things closely, you might want to find a new hobby in the short-term as the furthest along case, Lodsys v. Brother, won’t officially get under way until September 2014. Yeah. Check back in 2012…

GS After Hours: Two Floppy Disc Drives Belt Out Star Wars Imperial March. [Geek Cred]

  • September 28, 2011 11:49 pm

It’s late (in our neck of the woods). Most sane people have gone to bed. The house is quiet. And yet here we are rocking out to M83, fueled by coffee and tireless searching the internet for the next laugh/inspiration/idea. With that said we think we’ve found “it” — two old floppy discs tag teaming the Star Wars Imperial March. Ok. This is probably as far from productive as you’ll ever get, but it’s just damn cool. No explanation needed.

While we could claim “if we didn’t have Google+ we wouldn’t have this”, chances are we would have stumbled upon it sooner or later. We really spend a lot of time in front of computers. Geeks looking for a new master, YouTube user “sh4dowww90″ is your leader.
