After LG more or less confirmed that the T-Mobile G2X and Optimus 2X would not be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades, the tech world sort of erupted. Neither device is more than 8 months old — well within the 18-month upgrade window Google enacted (and an agreement LG was part of) — and both are plenty capable hardware wise.
It appears all is not yet lost. Androidandme is reporting that LG has contacted them to set the record straight. The new stance: “LG has not yet made a decision as to whether or not they will bring ICS to the Optimus 2X and G2X, and they are still testing ICS on said two phones.”
In short: when carriers/manufacturers mess with Android (such as the case with LG’s minor skin and included bloatware) it makes Android worse. Both of these phones wouldn’t have had delayed Gingerbread builds and an uncertain ICS future if LG wasn’t trying to be something that they’re not — software developers.
