From The Plex: ICS, Galaxy Nexus, Google Wallet, And Google Apps.

  • October 25, 2011 1:39 pm

From The Plex episode 2 is now out. Alright, we’re a few days late. What can we say. We fell asleep on the job.

With that said, what is “From The Plex”? It is simply the shortest amount of time you can cram the week’s Google news into and still come out halfway retaining what you’ve just heard. (Scientific definition)

Sprint: LTE Advanced (And VoLTE) Rollout Beginning 1st Half Of 2013.

  • October 25, 2011 12:40 pm

VZW what? Verizon may be killing it in the next-gen cellular market right now with their damn near complete LTE rollout, but Sprint has a few weapons in their arsenal. First and foremost the company made the smart decision to get away from the dead end that is WiMAX and embrace a more widely supported spec such as LTE. But more importantly the company is already looking to leapfrog to the next latest and greatest technology — LTE Advanced…

Brief: Galaxy Nexus Will Not Use Gorilla Glass.

  • October 25, 2011 11:49 am

Despite rumors (and even some documentation) saying the upcoming Jesus Phone of the Android world, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, would feature ultra-rugged Gorilla Glass, the makers of Gorilla Glass (Corning) have come forward to announce it simply isn’t true. Announced via the company’s Twitter page, Corning simply stated:

“For all who have asked, just confirmed @Corning Gorilla® Glass is not on the new Galaxy Nexus. For further details please contact Samsung.”

Depending on who you talk to this is either a blessing or a curse. On one hand Gorilla Glass is incredibly strong, and resistant to pretty harsh scratching. One the flip side, the strength and rigidity come at the expense of increased shattering possibilities due to Gorilla Glass’ brittle nature.

Thoughts?

T-Mobile USA Outs Release Dates For 10.1″ Galaxy Tab and 7″ Huawei Springboard Tablets.

  • October 25, 2011 11:37 am

Finally! T-Mobile has just made official the release dates accompanying the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Huawei 7″ tablets. Beginning November 2nd, the Galaxy Tab 10-incher will drop for a (shrinking number of territories) still undisclosed pricing. (Hopefully 2-year subsidies are generous to our wallets.). Meanwhile Huawei’s 7″ Springboard tablet will hit the market a few days later on November 7th 9th, price also lacking. Though according to TmoNews, the Springboard won’t cost a penny over $200 once 2-year contracts are hammered out.

The specs for the Galaxy Tab should be well known by now: dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB or RAM, 10.1″ 1280 x 800 (WXGA), 3-megapixel rear-facing camera, 16GB/32GB/64GB storage capacities, and ship with Android 3.2 Honeycomb.

Ditto for the Springboard: dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 16 GB of storage with support for up to 32 GB by way of 16 GB microSD and a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera tag teaming your photography needs with a second front-facing 1.3-megapixel shooter.

Stay tuned for pricing…

Battlefield 3 Pre-orders Rocket Towards Record Numbers — 2 Million+.

  • October 25, 2011 10:37 am

Battlefield 3 just went on sale today and it’s already set to break sales records. But even before it went on sale early this morning Battlefield 3 was already on its way to posting big numbers. According to pre-order figures by VGChartz, Battlefield 3 had over 2 million pre-orders as of October 22nd across Xbox, PS3, and PC.

We haven’t had a chance to play the game ourselves (yet), but you’ll certainly know when we do — GS will go dark for several days (just kidding…maybe). Any BF3 owners care to share their experience thus far?

Qualcomm Details S4 Platform, Krait Quad-Core Mobile CPU.

  • October 25, 2011 10:20 am

Right now the mobile world is all up in arms (in a good way) over dual-core 1.5 GHz processors. But very soon (next year) Qualcomm will unleash a fury with their S4 chip, powered by no less than a quad-core “Krait” processor…

Report: RIM Still Can’t Get BBM On More Than One Device, PlayBook OS 2.0 Delayed Until 2012.

  • October 25, 2011 9:53 am

Waiting impatiently for that PlayBook 2.0 update that was supposed to bring far and wide sweeping changes as well as a ton of added functionality? Well, you’re going to be waiting for a while longer. The rumored October release isn’t happening. November’s out. December. Ditto. As it stands now according to BGR, RIM is still having problems with the one device PIN limit that has so far delayed the roll out of multi-device BBM, email, calendars, contacts, and more syncing between BlackBerry devices. The only solution as of writing that RIM’s managed to come up with is using separate BBM accounts complete with their own separate contact lists. Obviously such a solution wouldn’t work (at all) and would do more harm than good.

BGR also claims “other issues” are helping add to PlayBook 2.0 delays but didn’t elaborate.

Hopefully RIM can make something happen. As it stands now they’re dead in the water with a seemingly dead end platform that is beginning to reek of webOS. For now we’ll have to wait until mid-February for the rumored PlayBook 2.0 update to hit the masses — that is of course assuming no other issues crop up and RIM can fix their PIN-limit problem.
