iPad 3 Retina Display “Confirmed” To Be In Production.

Thinking about snatching up an iPad for the holidays? We must urge you to wait. If there isn’t some insane deal and you’re ok with going a few more months iPad-less, something much better is around the corner with the iPad 3 according to DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim (via: Cnet).

While hardware such as processor (possibly a quad-core) and GPU are likely shoe-ins for upgrade, the biggest spectacle will be the (still rumored) retina display featuring a gargantuan 2048 x 1536 resolution. To keep supply in check with demand, Apple will reportedly source panels from three display makers: LG, Samsung, and Sharp.

In other iPad related news, rumors of a ~7-inch Apple tablet continue, though no firm details are known. Personally, we could care less about a 7-inch tablet if there’s a 9.7-incher floating around with 2048 x 1536 resolution. You?

I read on a different tech blog that it will be thicker than the current iPad 2 to make room for the retina display. Any confirmation on that? Personally, I’d live with a thicker iPad with better display and – crossing fingers – longer battery life.
