Review: Third Rail iPhone 4/4S Snap-on Battery Case.

  • November 16, 2011 11:28 am

Just about every battery life extending case/add-on for the iPhone is the same. You either have a case with a battery underneath a thin plastic shell, or, you have a simple battery brick with a port or two with which to plug gadgets in to. And then you have the Third Rail; a case that distances itself from the pack with a unique approach to the typical battery case. Instead of of the battery being on the inside of the case it’s on the outside. Crazy, we know.

The Third Rail is definitely unique. But is this unique design mere marketing gimmick or actually worth the $89.99 price tag? Hop in for the answer…

An Unexpected Marketing Campaign via Social Media

  • November 16, 2011 8:36 am

Blue Nile is using social media to its advantage by creating a fun and interactive way to promote their engagement rings. “Are You Manly Enough?” No, I’m not questioning you, that is the name of their new marketing campaign.

The campaign is encouraging men to submit a story or a video showing their masculinity and why they deserve to win. The winner receives a free Blue Nile engagement ring and a trip to Manhattan with their significant other to propose at the Nasdaq’s opening bell on Black Friday.

Blue Nile’s ad promoting the sweepstakes has been uploaded on YouTube and Funny or Die’s site. They also used their Facebook page to get the word out to the 116,364 people who “Like” the page and countless others who view it.

When you think about advertisements for jewelry the first thought that comes to mind is probably of a cheesy commercial you saw or a straight forward ad telling you the price. Blue Nile took this “Are You Manly Enough” campaign in a completely different direction by adding humor and encouraging people to actively participate. They understood that using social media for an ad campaign would require a different approach for a few different reasons…

  • November 16, 2011 7:41 am

Verizon’s massive LTE push continues without a vengeance, with the carrier announcing 14 new markets (on top of their already stout 179) that are set to go live November 17th.

  • Little Rock, Ark., Savannah, Ga., Cedar Rapids and Des Moines, Iowa, Lexington, Ky., Starkville, Miss., Kansas City and Springfield/Branson, Mo., Lincoln, Neb., Orange County, N.Y., Greater Providence, R.I., Rapid City, S.D., Roanoke, Va., and Appleton/Oshkosh, Wis.

Expanded LTE service will be coming to residents of: Pittsburgh, Louisville, Ky., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of hopping around on an LTE network, we’ll simply say that 5-20 Mbps down is…awesome. Your battery, meanwhile, will hate you forever. You win and you lose some.

Google Reportedly Signs Last-Minute Deals For Impending Google Music Store Launch.

  • November 16, 2011 7:29 am

Apple’s iTunes has long been the go-to standard for digital music distribution. In recent years, however, Amazon has been chasing Apple’s tail hot and heavy. And now, Google is set to enter the fray beginning with the (rumored) launch of the new Google Music Store later today.

The Google Music Store will work similar to iTunes in that users can purchase and download music for $1. One nice addition that iTunes won’t feature: the ability to share 1-2 free plays on Google+.

The labels on board include majors Sony, EMI, and UMG (Universal Music Group) as well as a healthy assortment of smaller labels and independents.

Considering Google’s remained rather quite on Google Music’s online, self-created streaming locker, we’d imagine now would be a good time for them to announce an integration between the upcoming Store and locker, and potentially some other tasty treats that have neglected to make their way to us.

We’re finally getting to a period in which iTunes has some serious competition breathing down the back of their neck. If Microsoft can get something running for WP7, consider us tickled. Competition, competition, competition…
