After word spread last week that Samsung’s Android 4.0 ICS upgrade list didn’t include an army full of Galaxy S smartphones and tablets, public reaction was pretty much unanimously negative. While Samsung can’t be expected to support older hardware indefinitely, we’re sure it would be hard to find anyone who considers the Galaxy S phones/tablets “outdated”, hardware-wise, in the slightest. But all is (potentially) not lost. A Korean newspaper by the name of AJ News is reporting that due to the negative public response, Samsung will re-evaluate their ICS plans and try to find a way to cram ICS onto the Galaxy S phone/tablet hardware.
We see this as a bittersweet victory for Galaxy S owners. On one hand, Samsung is doing what few Android manufacturers do — upgrade “old” hardware to the latest and greatest version of Android. On the flip side, the Galaxy S phones/tablets will no doubt see some features/eye candy cut from ICS due to limited memory on said devices. Of course, any Android enthusiast will immediately call out any potential memory issues as a moot issue should Samsung give up the horrendous TouchWiz interface. Such skins, as are commonly installed by manufacturers, take up a rather large chunk of memory as well as other system resources. Unfortunately, manufacturers use the skins to differentiate themselves from other competitors, so don’t go expecting Samsung to all of a sudden release a naked Android device.
Samsung hasn’t officially responded to our inquiries yet for more info, but rest assured that we’ll update you as soon as we hear back.

LG fans looking for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update news have finally been thrown a bone. LG updated their Facebook page today with a healthy list of Android devices that they intend to push 4.0 down to, beginning in April 2012 and stretching into Q3 2012.
Q2 Updates
- LG Optimus LTE, Prada phone by LG 3.0, LG Optimus 2X, LG Optimus Sol, LG myTouch Q, LG Eclipse
Q3 Updates
- LG Optimus 3D, LG Optimus Black, LG Optimus Big, LG Optimus Q2, LG Optimus EX
While LG has now promised to deliver ICS in Q2/Q3, it will ultimately be up to carriers and their own respective testing requirements to get the ball rolling.

Score another one for the internet. After a massive outpouring of public discontent over GoDaddy’s continued support of SOPA, the company has (finally) announced they are officially dropping support for the extremely harmful anti-piracy bill, SOPA.
If you were thinking it’s time to bury the hatchet, we’ll invite you to merely put it in the closet for now as the company’s tone in their official statement makes it sound like they’re only dropping SOPA to appease naysayers, and that ultimately some SOPA-like bill will be passed. With that said, GoDaddy says that if/when consumers support SOPA (or a similar bill), they too will get back on board.
As for those with plans to transfer domains away from GoDaddy, will you continue? We took Gadgetsteria.com and ran. While GoDaddy caved this time, their track record isn’t exactly a beacon of truth and honesty.

If you haven’t followed the whole SOPA/ProtectIP drama over the last few weeks in particular, just know that the 1-2 combo of terribly written bills could, if passed, turn the U.S. into a 2nd China in regards to censorship. While we won’t get deep into why either bill is bad (there’s already plenty of that online), we will highlight a humorous/intriguing boycott that is gaining momentum — a “Leave GoDaddy Day” on December 29th — that all started from a single Reddit post.
Disclaimer: We began the transfer process to move Gadgetsteria.com away from GoDaddy yesterday.
GoDaddy’s public image to the internet loving people is, understandably, tanking. The statement they gave to Ars Technica in response to questions regarding the December 29th boycott and their SOPA/ProtectIP support in which they blatantly brush off criticism doesn’t help either. In short: GoDaddy is saying they don’t give a fuck about you, the internet, or the idea of a free and open web. On top of it all, they’re laughing at everyone. Though, we’re pretty sure GoDaddy won’t be laughing if more people follow “I can has cheeseburger” (Fail Blog, etc.) CEO Ben Huh — Huh is moving over 1,000 domains off of GoDaddy if they don’t drop support for SOPA (via: Twitter).
If the boycott actually has as impact, big or small, it will be our turn to laugh back.
See ya, GoDaddy.
Update
Score one for the internet — GoDaddy has officially dropped support for SOPA.

Remember that awesome Porsche Design BlackBerry P’9981 we talked about back in October? We finally have a date, market, and price — The P’9981 will be a UK exclusive at uxury department store, Harrods and be available in “late December” for $1998.
Besides the fancy design, what’s the P’9981 packing to rationalize such a high price? Nothing, really. But we can’t help still feeling a bit of lust for this lovely little device despite the sadness and shame that has become the BlackBerry OS running on board.
UK residents: Will you be picking up a Porsche Design P’9981?
