WSJ: Apple Building 8″ iPad With Same Resolution As 9.7″ Model.

Oh god. Another one of those “Apple is building a smaller iPad” rumors. Right? Well, this one has a bit more weight as it is the Wall Street Journal making the claim, citing “unnamed sources”. According to the WSJ, the 8″ iPad will feature the same resolution as the current 9.7″ model. The 1024 x 768 resolution may not seem very high-end, especially considering what’s slated for release in 2012, but thanks the higher pixel density, sharpness should at least get a healthy little bump.

The WSJ notes that Apple, like many other tablet/smartphone manufacturers, try out new concept designs and sizes all the time with few of them ever making it to market. The unnamed source(s) could simply be mistaking a concept device for a planned for production model. Either way, we’re unlikely to know much more until Apple makes it official (or pieces of the elusive 8″ iPad leak out).
