We’re pretty fond of Apple’s Retina Display technology on the iPhone. And while other manufacturers have pumped out higher resolution 720p displays, we’re still finding ourselves loving the 3.5″ form factor (call us crazy). But LG might just have something to draw us a away – a 5″ 1080p AH-IPS display set for release in 2H 2012.
Equaling 440ppi, LG’s new 1080p panel should appeal to mobile movie and gaming buffs, most. The AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) display is said to have speedy response times, retina-searing brightness and more than maple viewing angles. According to LG, their 1080p panel is “2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi” than competing 720p panels.
We have no doubt this screen is going to look absolutely gorgeous. That said, we now must hope LG makes the rest of the hardware surrounding the display equally fascinating. So far, their high-end hardware has left a bit to be desired in the looks department. Then again, if we had 440ppi and 1080p resolution crammed into 5″ of space, we might be apt to overlook visual inefficiencies. You?
