Nintendo’s E3 Keynote: Super Mario Bros. U Unveiled.

20120605-125256.jpgNintendo had many things to unveil yesterday at the pre-E3 keynote as well as today’s official keynote. But we’re sure we’re not alone in assuming one of the biggest announcements Nintendo has unveiled thus far revolves around the new Super Mario Bros. U, the next chapter in Mario’s (long) career.

While much of the gameplay will be familiar to gamers old and new, the Wii U’s unique 7″ display toting game pad will allow an all-new level of interaction. For example, on stage at E3 Nintendo demoed how one player with the game pad can tap on the game pad’s display to create platforms for other local players (using Wi motes) to jump onto. The platforms gradually shrunk until they disappeared altogether. Other perks include the ability to unlock Yoshi, the lovable green dinosaur that has been by Mario’s side for decades and a new flying squirrel suit. In-game tweaks aside, Nintendo also showed how Super Mario Bros. U can be transferred between the big screen and the Wii U game pad’s 7″ display.

Even though there are plenty of exclusive and long-lasting Nintendo game franchises, we’d say Mario is probably one of the biggest and most important (not only to Nintendo but the entire gaming world in general).

What do you think of the new Super Mario Bros. U?
