Electric skateboards kind of leave us a bit confused. The main point of a skateboard is to push yourself around, and in modern times, do tricks on it. Electric skateboards provide the basic transportation aspect rather well. Doing tricks, however, is all but impossible thanks to the electric skateboard’s considerably heavier curb weight. But if such an electric skateboard could rocket you to 28 MPH (damn fast when you’re a few inches off the ground) in as little as 1.9 seconds, well then, we might be more open to the idea of riding one.
The Gnarboard Trail Rider is a 16.5 kW foot rocket thanks to the 850 W motors, and is easily piloted by a hand-held controller. Squeezing the controller one direction accelerates while squeezing the oposite brakes. Also, braking is regenerative so all that seemingly useless heat gets put to use recharging the board’s battery packs. Pretty awesome, eh? Good luck keeping upright.
