Back in April I wrote about how Verizon and HTC’s upcoming Droid Incredible 4G LTE was the “sleeper hit of the summer”. The reasoning is simple; the Incredible 4G is the first Android smartphone on Verizon to combine a fast, modern dual-core processor, high-res (540 x 960) 4″ (more pocketable) display and LTE. So far, all of Verizon’s big name LTE devices have been 4.3″ or more. The 4″ formfactor, is in my opinion, the perfect size for one-handed operation and content consumption.
The original release date was believed to be yesterday, June 21st. Obviously that didn’t happen. And now Droid-Life is reporting we still have another week or two to wait. Currently, their sources say July 5th, though the date wasn’t given a “confirmed” status. Why the “sleeper hit of the summer” has been pushed back isn’t known — I’m waiting to hear back from Verizon and/or HTC. But quite honestly, I don’t expect to get anything worthwhile back outside of “we don’t have any announcements at this time” or “we don’t comment on unannounced products”.
It’s worth noting that the June 21st date wasn’t a set in stone date, and that the duo announced the Droid Incredible 4G LTE would only be released “in the coming weeks” back at CTIA.
The problem with the “delay”, however short, is that (as Droid-Life notes), the Incredible 4G LTE will now be going up against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S III. While the two devices are very much designed for different clientele, it’s still not the best situation for HTC to be in.
I’ve already stated my opinion (in regards to the Incredible 4G LTE and screensize). What’s yours?
