Rugged cases were once a rarity. Finding one that both protected your phone and looked somewhat presentable doing it were pretty much non-existent. But times have changed in recent years. Now an army of mobile device accessory makers are pumping out some pretty nice looking, heavy-duty protective accessories. One such company, Scosche, sent us over a few images and details regarding their new stylish + protective case — the RAILkase.
As you can see, it’s design is definitely more subdued than similar offerings by Otterbox and Ballistic. But that doesn’t mean it’s any less protective. The first layer of protection is provided by a thin yet shock-absorbing silicone layer while a hard, aluminum frame wraps around the outside. Also, the case is relatively easy to remove/install thanks to the quick release clip system that is both quick, yet sure to stay locked when dropped. Finally, we’re told that signal strength is not affected in the slightest – serious concern when you start wrapping wireless killing materials like aluminum around the iPhone’s antenna.
For $59.99 it’s definitely not the most expensive case. The real kicker is, however, just how much protection you “give up” for that lower price and thinner construction. We’ll be testing this case in the coming weeks so check back soon to see if the RAILkase can live up to its claims to fame.
