CW Network Distributing Limited Edition Entertainment Weekly With Live Twitter Stream Embedded

Old style media, entertainment and news companies are often seen as dinosaurs slowly dying in the modern digital world. With the instant availability of any and all information one could ever hope to acquire, the need for static, delayed information via physical paper seems so unnecessary. But CW Television Network isn’t going down without a fight.
In a special, limited edition (~1,000 copies) of Entertainment Weekly being distributed in New York and L.A., readers will be presented with a special page that features an Android powered device inserted between two thick pages that scrolls through the latest tweets by the @CW_Network Twitter account – a first for a print medium.
According to CW’s executive vice president of marketing and digital programs at CW, Rick Haskins, the goal with the “smart page” of sorts is “to look at things that are first to market, that are really going to let people know that we are a digital network and that digital media is part of our DNA”.
The hardware itself is understandably simple in nature. The processor and other specs of the “3G” enabled magazines weren’t divulged but based on first-hand accounts, it’s nothing to write home about.
Being the nerds that we are here at GS, we’d love to simple see the special magazine in person even if we have no interest in moving back to the world of print news/entertainment.
The future, ladies and gentlemen…
