Instagram released a moderately decent 3.2/3.3 update today for iOS and Android users. In it were several tweaks, with iOS users getting the most new paint. Also included for both platforms – a new filter. But you know who else was toying with filters? Twitter. And today, Twitter’s counterargument to weeks of behind the scenes bickering between the two social giants comes to a head with the newly updated Twitter for iPhone and Android apps.
The new Twitter app offers several new enhancements and features. First and foremost are the addition of 8 filters (provided by Aviary) to apply to photos snapped with Twitter for iPhone/Android. Said filters can be viewed (and applied) one at a time or viewed in a “birds eye” view. Cropping and pinch-to-zoom functionality is also supported. Finally, an auto-enhance feature will attempt to balance colors, saturation and other aspects of your photo to make it as crisp and vivid as possible.

With Twitter now turning up the heat on Instagram with in-app filters, it remains to be seen what Instagram has up its sleeve to continue adding new users and keeping them satisfied with a much less friendly approach to one of the most popular social networks in the world – Twitter – as well as how it plans on supplanting the lack of Twitter integration with something else equally as engaging.
The new app is now available in the Google Play Store and should hit the iOS App Store soon, apparently sometime today still.
