20130108-081606.jpgThe iPhone is a wonderful piece of art and display of modern engineering. But that beauty comes with a price – it’s fragile. Rugged cases for the iPhone are one of the biggest mini-markets for iPhone accessories. Just look at how many Otterbox cases you see on iPhones when out and about.

At 2013 CES, the rugged case scene is getting even more diverse with two new models by Optrix and Seidio.

The Optrix XD5 is an ultra-rugged case that is thinner, lighter yet stronger than the previous XD sports case, and is also more water resistant than the outgoing model as well. But rugged protection isn’t this case’s only trick – it’s an action camera too thanks to the built in wide-angle lens. The lens system is also interchangeable. Adrenaline junkies looking for the most mobile and convenient picture/video solution will want to check the XD5 out.

If the XD5 isn’t your cup of tea, longtime mobile accessory manufacturer, Seidio, has taken the wraps off of their new “OBEX” case. Features include robust shock/water/dust protection (IP68 and MIL-STD-810G ratings) and the ability to even keep your gadget alive completely submerged in water.

The Seidio OBEX retails for $78.95 ($89.95 with holster) and is available now. We’re waiting to here back about pricing/release info on the Optrix XD5 and will update this post accordingly.
