20130122-091436.jpgAction/wearable video cameras are all the rage as of late. There are numerous good options to choose from in various form factors and styles. And today (originally showcased at CES 2013), Swann Security has their own offering to toss into the mix with their Bolt HD camera.

The Bolt HD features support for full HD (1080p) video as well as 12-megapixel stills that can be captured with a separate remote. The 135-degree angle lens aims to get more in each shot and the built-in stereo microphone ensures clean audio capture, too. Speaking of which, data is stored on a removable SD card with support for up to 32 GB cards.

In terms of ruggedness, you’re looking at a shockproof and waterproof (up to 32′) device that will have several different attachment options available via separate mounts (curved surface mount, helmet mount, flat surface mount).

Power is made possible by a built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be recharged via USB with “hours of battery life” stated. (We’re working on getting a review unit to test this claim.)

$199 and the lack of any special external “tough” cases to snap around the camera certainly do have their own perks. Question is, is it better than the competition?
