While many politicians and internet providers talk plenty of talk in regards to internet expansion and speeds, Google is the only walking the walk, albeit a slow walk. After launching their highly publicized gigabit fiber network in Kansas City last year, the company is now working on deploying their second market in Olathe, Kansas.
Located about 20 miles south west of Kansas City, Olathe is allegedly one of the fastest growing cities and fifth most populous city in the state – a seemingly perfect candidate for Google and friends to build out their fantastic high speed network.
For now, Google isn’t publishing any sort of time frame as to when Olathe residents can actually use the new network, with Google saying there is still plenty of planning and engineering work to be done before actual construction and build out begins. Still, just knowing that internet with speeds 10x faster than your typical high speed service and (and for $70 no less) is coming is exciting enough. Olathe, you lucky, lucky people.
