A rugged version of Samsung’s new Galaxy S4 has been teased in rumors for weeks now. But today, the first images of what a “tough” version of the latest Galaxy phone might be have allegedly leaked. GSM Arena has photos that they say are the upcoming S4 Active.
Internally, specs are the same (5-inch 1080p display, quad-core Qualcomm 600 CPU, Adreno 320 GPU, 2 GB of RAM). However, the shell that surrounds those precious innards is now metal with visible bolts on the back. Also deviating from the non-rugged version are the use of three physical buttons underneath the display. All that said, for a rugged phone it appears surprisingly thin.
For the plastic haters (raises hand) out there, the S4 Active could prove to be quite tempting. The specs combined with a tougher, metallic shell and promises of dust/water resistance sound like the perfect recipe. Now if only this was the Google Edition S4 without Touch Wiz bloat…
