Dolly Drive Updated To Version 2.0.5 – Adds Dolly Sync And Dolly Space Support

The Dolly Drive service we featured a couple weeks ago has received a very nice update. Build 2052 – which can be found via the website log in – adds Dolly Sync and Dolly Space support. These services will come in extremely useful when their iDolly iOS app, that was announced at the 2012 MacWorld show, is released.

Dolly Sync places a cute little Finder Folder on your Desktop with a Dolly Sheep on it. It’s pretty simple what this is for, you place any files you’d like in this folder, they are automatically synced in the cloud, which will give you web access from anywhere in the Universe. It even works in reverse, if you are logged into the website, you can upload to the cloud and it’ll sync to the DollySync folder on your desktop. It’s simple, helpful, and is a great addition to the already amazing Dolly Drive service we’ve become addicted to.

Dolly Space is a way to use your DollyDrive account/space as a regular old external hard drive. I have a 50gb DollyDrive account, and if I only have 20gbs of my DollyDrive Time Machine used, I have 30GBs of unused space. I can use that to store other data that is important to me, that might not be included in my initial back up. This will be a highly useful feature for those with larger packages with extra space. If you have another computer you’d like to back a few important files up, Dolly Space will get you some nice cloud storage in your already included Dolly package.

With the iDolly iOS app on the way, we are highly anticipating some incredible stuff from the Dolly Drive guys. We had a chance to see an earlier build while at CES and we have to say that this combined with the features in the desktop/web app will be huge for anyone looking for an incredible cloud storage and backup option.

As soon as the iOS app is available we’ll be sure to get a post letting you know!

Has anyone had a chance to use Dolly Drive yet? What do you think? Hop on past for some screenshots!

AT&T Punches You In The Face By Doubling Handset Upgrade Fee To $36

Not that this is a common theme yet, but AT&T is at it again. They keep digging up new ways to fist their users and create a loyale user base of pissed off customers. If you have been a customer of the GSM giant during the last 10 years, you’ll know that when you go to upgrade your device, you’ll be slapped with an $18 upgrade fee. Well, since the fees associated with upgrading a device for us are costing them more money, they’ll now pass that along to us.

Beginning this Sunday, the 12th of February, customers upgrading to that shiny new device will see the $36 fee. So if you were planning on getting an upgrade in, we’d suggest picking it up tomorrow. We know how expensive AT&T is, and shoving this doubled up charge at us is ridiculous. The only cost I can see this causing for AT&T is the hourly wage for the slow a$$ employees clicking their mouse behind the counter as I stand and wait.

Anyone still surprised that AT&T likes giving us the shaft at this point? Hopefully we’ll see a quicker upgrade process, that’ll be worth the extra $18!!

Review: BodyGuardz Mykase & UltraTough Clear Case Friendly ScreenGuardz

Let me begin this review by saying how fond of the BodyGuardz line of screen protection I am. If you follow me on Twitter, or know me, you probably already knew this. I have been using the screen protectors on both the front and back of my iPhones since the 3G days. Between the solid construction, easy application, warranty and amazing price, I’ve always been drawn to the products.

I will not be basing this review on my past experiences with BodyGuardz. Even though they have all been pleasant, I will base everything on these two individual products, both being brand new and not used by myself since CES 2012 until now.

Drop past the break to hear me ramble on what BodyGuardz is churning out in 2012…

Speck CandyShell – Review & Roundup

If you have spent any time hanging out at the GS headquarters, or even read the site once in a while, by now you have probably noticed we like iPhone cases. When I say we like them, I mean we like to review the heck out of them. I personally hate iPhone cases for the pure fact it takes away from the beauty of the iPhone. But when someone sends me a case to review, I won’t say no. I’ll give em a shot and see how they stand up to my sweaty 8bit-blistered fingers day in and day out.

If you recall, a few weeks ago we were trolling the streets of Vegas and the Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. A tiny little tech convention that goes by the name of CES was in town and we were there to not only check out the Thunder From Down-under, but to also see all the latest technology being announced. We happened by the Speck booth to see their new line of cases and see if they had anything else worthy of our magnificent eyes. We left with not only a sweet MacBook Air case, but we also left with over9000 iPhone cases. I am here to give you the lowdown on what is coming out of the Speck castle to protect your iPhone 4/4S.

Drop on in for some Specky good times and read our oh-so-nasty important thoughts…

Review: Dolly Drive – Online Backup For Apple Time Machine

During our boring time in Vegas attending CES, we came across a bunch of guys that were surrounded by sheep. Now, if it wasn’t for the fact they were also surrounded by gorgeous Apple computers, Mike and I probably would of just walked on by. They asked us their questions on how we back up, if we use Time Machine and so on and so on. After hearing their talk for a few minutes, it clicked. Mixing a “set it and forget it” service like Time Machine with cloud based storage is ingenious. It makes sense.

I’ve been using Dolly Drive for the past couple weeks, and with their presence this week at MacWorld, I wanted to dive into what I think about the cloud guys with the cute little sheep logo.

Hop on in and find out more about Dolly Drive and online Time Machine back-ups…

Review: Speck SeeThru For MacBook Air

I know what you’re thinking; “why in the flipping World would I want to cover up that gorgeous aluminum piece of pure sex?!?” Well, I never thought I would either. But while we were trolling the show floor a couple weeks ago, I found myself drooling over the cases that were at my finger tips. With so many to choose from, it’s kind of hard to even know where to start. But if you’ve owned an iDevice for any length of time, the word Speck probably means more than that little piece of dust that is stuck under your protective skin on your iPhone.

We happened to make our way to the Speck on a Wednesday afternoon because of some free beer. Now, don’t get me wrong, I wanted to hit it up because of a certain CandyShell View Case that they were showing off. I wanted to see about picking one up to make my plane ride home a tad bit more enjoyable. To my dismay they were plum out except for what they had on display, but that sure as hell didn’t mean Mike and I got some serious goodies from the great people working the floor. I inquired about something for my little old 11″ MacBook Air and was handed a shiny blue SeeThru to try out.

How did it fare? Will I keep using it? Does it keep me from waking up in cold sweat after having vicious nightmares about scratching the Apple logo on the outside of the laptop? I guess you’re just gonna have to hit ‘continue’ to find out!!!

‘Inside Apple’ Available Now In The iBookstore

The much anticipated book that takes a deep look into the inner workings of Apple has hit the iBookstore this evening. It is slated to hit brick-and-mortar store shelves tomorrow, but those of us with an iDevice have a shot at it now.

Inside Apple is said to reveal the secrets, tactics and leadership strategies that allowed Steve Jobs and his wondrous company to consistently knock their releases out of the park. We’ve heard all the rumors on the testing of products. Housing new prototype model phones in older casings to avoid detection. Locked doors of the areas in which all design takes place.

Senior Editor At Large for Fortune Magazine – Adam Lashinsky – goes where not many have been allowed to go, in hopes that the rest of us unworthy people get a glimpse into what it takes to be the most successful tech company in the World.

I can’t wait to get this book in my hands and read. I look forward to all that is uncovered!!! Anyone out there gonna pick this up? Let us know what you think!

Hop on in for the link to the book in iTunes, or for an easier method, search in iBooks!

Absinthe Installed Almost 1,000,000 Times. Updated To Support Linux

It’s been a crazy weekend. The A5 owners across the World were finally granted access to the sweet action of a jailbroken iDevice on 5.0+. We’ve been waiting since October to bask in the glorious aroma of this amazing liquor called Absinthe. The Dev Teams involved with the latest addition to the ever lasting cat-and-mouse game with Apple has touted a whopping 1 million installs across iPhone 4S’s, iPad 2s as well as the iPad 2s that were previously jailbroken on a 4.x level. The A5 version of the latest exploits was released this past Friday morning and since them people have been crashing repos and servers trying to join in on the fun.

We come by these exact numbers by the way of Cydia. The first time you launch Cydia, the iDevice queries Saurik’s server for the list of available SHSH Blobs. And since this past Friday, here are the numbers of new attempts to see the SHSH Blobs:

  • 491,325 new iPhone4,1 devices
  • 308,967 new iPad2 devices
  • 152,940 previously jailbroken (at 4.x) iPad2 devices

Along with these crazy numbers, Absinthe was silently updated to version 0.3 to include Linux support, as well as fix some potention bugs for win32. If you haven’t jailbroken your iPad 2 or iPhone 4S running 5.0 – 5.0.1, please run over to greenpois0n.com and give it a shot.

Absinthe For Windows Has Been Released

We told you about the OSX release of Absinthe yesterday and you Windows users can finally set the phone you spent a ton of money on free from the confines of Apples prison. I used the OSX version yesterday and am loving it. October was the last time I was able to really enjoy my phone. I am so thankful for all the hard work that has gone into the 5.0 jailbreak.

The UI that the Chronic Dev Team uses for both the Mac and Windows version is very slick and easy. Not much for the end user to have to do. Simply download, open the app, plug your phone in, and then hit jailbreak. The rest takes place on your phone with a simple app launch. The other option you will have as a Windows user is the command line interface manual jailbreak that the iPhone Dev Team released. The latest 0.4.3 version adds the Windows support. For those that don’t want to hassle with a jailbreak that much should stay away from this option and just use the UI the Chronic Dev Team gave you. We’ll hopefully see redsn0w released soon with the included exploit.

The supported firmware versions will be:
iPhone4s: 5.0 (9A334), 5.0.1 (9A405) and the “other” 5.0.1 (9A406)
iPad2: 5.0.1 (9A405)
