Instagram Spied As Android Market “Featured App”. Release Imminent?

  • February 7, 2012 9:36 am

Announcements of new hardware and software often get mistakingly posted before their official release (if they’re not already leaked beforehand). The “bad” affect it has on the company in question is debatable. We’d argue that the small leaks here and there only increase the anticipation and hype around a genuinely lusted after product/service.

Instagram for Android is the latest to suffer from pre-release release. The screenshot above was captured by an AndroidGuys reader and shows the Android Market’s “Featured App” as the currently unreleased Instagram for Android. Clicking on the link by said reader resulted in a failed journey into awesomeness (read: the link was broken). Still, despite leaving the Android Market empty handed, the person who caught the image above (as well as the rest of us) shouldn’t have to wait too much longer. Details around Instagram for Android have been constantly bantered back and forth in the online world.

Keep waiting everyone. It’s almost here.

CES 2012: Hands On With Polaroid’s SC1630 Android Camera.

  • January 11, 2012 2:04 am

Polaroid hasn’t been on our (and probably a good number of peoples’) radar for quite some time. The once innovative company has seemingly fallen into stagnant state, unable to produce the once great products of years past. But this year is different thanks to a “smart camera” in the SC1630 — a 16 megapixel point-and-shoot camera powered by Android.

We got our clammy paws all over Polaroid’s latest and greatest. Hop past the break for the visual evidence, and of course, our oh so important thoughts…

FX Photo Studio: Christmas Competition and Sale

  • December 19, 2011 11:39 am

As you may have noticed, we have a special place in our hearts for pretty much everything that comes out of the MacPhun laboratories. We find the apps they develop wonderful and fun to use. If you can recall we reviewed FX Photo Studio for iOS earlier this year and we haven’t stopped using it since. In the past 10 months we’ve seen a couple updates that have made the app so much more than it was.

MacPhun has just recently released Snapheal for Mac and we were lucky enough to receive an advance copy for review. To celebrate the Snapheal release, as well as the iPhoneography show in NYC, MacPhun LLC has dropped the price of FX Photo Studio to $.99! At that price there is no reason your Home Screen should not have the attached logo draped across it!

To sweeten the pot, if you retweet the following:

Christmas competition: get FX Photo Studio for iPhone for just 0,99$ http://bit.ly/6fbPVX, retweet and win #Snapheal for Mac for free.

This is a great deal on an amazing app and great chance to get yourself a free copy of Snapheal.

Pick up FX PhotoStudio from the AppStore now!

Good luck!

Think You’ve Got Some Photography Chops? Enter The iPhoneography Competition For A Chance To Be Featured In New York Exhibition.

  • November 8, 2011 9:45 am

Think you have what it takes to compete amongst other amateur and professional photographers around the world, and happen to share a love for iPhoneography? The FX Photo Studio team (MacPhun) is holding an “iPhoneography” competition through the end of December that encourages users of not only FX Photo Studio, but other iOS photo apps as well, to submit their photos for a chance to be featured in the New York exhibition and potentially win a piece of iPhoneography swag. The only requirement is that FX Photo Studio is used in the image taking/editing processes somewhere along the way.

Submissions can be emailed to “[email protected]” or submitted via a special form on the iPhoneography.com website from (yesterday) November 7th through December 7th. The exhibition will be held just before Christmas in New York City at the Soho Gallery.

All photo submissions will be visible on the iPhoneography website. As an added bonus for participating, all iPhoneographers will be able to receive a 20% discount on Calendargram — a service that allows you to create calendars out of Instagram photos.

The “swag” mentioned above will be awarded to 100 specially picked “top artists” and include hardware, software, and special deals & discounts on iPhoneography gear.

There aren’t any fees required to enter into the competition nor is there any limit on the amount of images a photographer may upload.

Review: Color Splash Studio For Mac.

  • October 19, 2011 7:00 am

Jumping into the far-reaching world of photo editing can be quite overwhelming to newcomers. Copious amounts of time (and eventually money) will be needed in order to succeed. A lot of “beginner” tools we’ve seen are in fact quite complex, maybe too complex.

On the flip side, there are plenty of hobbyist photo editors who merely tweak photos for fun or on a much smaller scale than a professional, and have no plans to do it full time.

Fit either mold? That’s where MacPhun’s Color Splash Studio comes into play. Basic photo editing as well as a robust feature to add emphasis to certain colors is super simple. Hop past the break and see for yourself…

Samsung Announces 16 Megapixel CMOS Sensor For Mobile Devices.

  • September 29, 2011 11:08 am

Camera phones are about to get a lot more serious thanks to the new Samsung made S5K2P1 CMOS sensor that packs a whopping 16 megapixels of resolution. Though as we’ve told you many times before, sheer resolution isn’t everything. As such, the S5K2P1 features a back-lit sensor for (in theory) better low-light performance. On top of that, this gigantor chip will shoot native 16:9 video at 60fps meaning mobile video buffs should be more than tickled too.

The hardware is currently sampling and should hit mass production by the end of 2011. 2012: the year of the 16 megapixel phone. Crazy.

Flickr For Android Aims To Beat Instagram At Their Own Game, Whenever They Show Up.

  • September 28, 2011 4:03 pm

Android users looking for a little Instagram love will still have to continue waiting for the “official” app from Instagram. Yeah, we’re getting just as antsy as you are. But remember, Instagram still has six employees that now have to deal with an alleged 10+ million strong userbase — no easy feat. In the meantime, there’s this new app from Flickr for Android that promises just as much photo fun and interaction as Instagram (and then some). Looks like Yahoo is ready to put up a fight for the mobile photo editing/sharing crown.

Give Flickr for Android a shot and let us know what you think.

In other news: The Flickr iOS app will gain similar filter/share options in an update planned for sometime in the future, though head of product Markus Spiering wouldn’t divulge to reporters exactly when that date would be.

Instagram 2.0 Launches: 4 New Filters, 4x Larger Photos, And Live Filters!

  • September 20, 2011 1:19 pm

We’re not going to lie. We’re hardcore Instagram junkies here at GS. And today our most favorite photo/social app just got a major 2.0 update. What did it bring? Hop past the break to find out…

Milestone: Instagram Reaches 150 Million Photos.

  • August 7, 2011 2:27 pm

If you are anything like us you love Instagram. It is a mandatory expectation here at the GS headquarters that you are to snap and upload at least 3 pictures during your shift or else you get a talking to, and that is something we have no time for – talking. 9 months ago an app was born into the App Store, we’d say it is a front runner for the spot of most amazingness incredible awesomely photo apps around. With that said, Instagram also has some other bragging rights – not only do they feed the TwitterVerse and FaceBook world with amazing photos – they also do it at 1.3 million a day. That breaks down to 15 photos every second. Out of all of those photos uploaded, 80% of them are Filtered. Another crazy tidbit, 4 people make up the Instagram team – which handles the 7 million users!!

Instagram’s founder Kevin Systrom had this to say…

“To say that we’re excited and humbled by the initial success of Instagram would be an understatement. Although this milestone marks a significant accomplishment of our team of 4 folks so far, I believe it marks the beginning of what’s to come. We’re one of the fastest growing social networks in mobile – having remained in the top 25 free apps in the app store for over a month now. Where mobile apps come and go, Instagram has continued to see unprecedented growth in users and usage…

We’re constantly amazed by the range of photos shared on Instagram. Instagrammers snap photos of everyday moments with friends and family, but they also document more significant personal moments, like weddings and honeymoons. There are Instagram photos from major events like the World Series and the Grammys, and some Instagram photos have even made the national news. Artists and celebrities have begun to give fans a unique look into their lives through photos, while brands like Burberry have started to realize the power of communicating with their followers through images.”

If you haven’t checked out Instagram yet, please do. This is an amazing app and the best part about it is that it is free. If you were wondering, the image we used is the 150,000,000 picture.
