Microsoft kills 1 vs. 100 Live.

Our worst Xbox Live fears have just come true: Microsoft killed 1 vs. 100 Live! The first 2 seasons were pretty popular I thought. But apparently it just wasn’t enough. Supposedly, money and mismanagement were the two main reasons Microsoft put the kibosh on the game. In the end, 1 vs. 100 Live simply didn’t make Microsoft enough money. At the same time, the project and game development was passed between various employees over the last couple of years, ensuring that any streamlined development approach was effectively killed. (Seems Microsoft is having a lot of managment issues these days…KIN…need I say more?)

There is a light at the end of the tunnel though. The 1 vs. 100 team put together an entire framework for not only 1 vs. 100 Live, but future projects as well. If Microsoft can get their ducks back in a row and the right amount of resources designated to another similar style of game, we could end up with something even better than 1 vs. 100.

But for now, I’ll be crying in my beer, unable to decide what to do during the coming Friday nights…

1 vs. 100 FREE for all Xbox Silver and Gold members this Christmas.

Have an Xbox and fancy the Live scene? If you’re into the whole trivia thing, one game you should check out (if you haven’t already) is 1 vs. 100. Think of it as a sort of Xbox version of “Who wants to be a millionaire” except here there isn’t any money and thousands of people play simultaneously instead of just one. Completely the same….right.

Anyway, December 24th through December 26th, all Xbox Live members (Silver and Gold) will be able to play 1 vs. 100 for FREE. Also calendar worthy is a special Holiday themed episode of the game going live on December 26th @ 9pm (EST).

Again, if you’re in to trivia it’s a pretty fun way to pass the hours. Something else that might pique your interest — while monetary awards aren’t technically handed out, winners of 1 vs. 100 Live can win various amounts of Microsoft Points, games, and many other Microsoft gifts so it’s in your best interest to play if you like free stuff. See you on the 24th!
